Welcome to the board. Congratulations to your friend, that is a beautiful guitar!

'92 Custom Elite?
The ad says it is a derivation of the 1768, probably as close as you'll get to a model number.

The model number will be on the label insice the guitar. But the description says it all -- it's a special guitar built for the Sam Ashe music stores, from the mid 1990's.

Ovation USA built it, probably for a special Sam Ash Music order.

It is likely a 1768 with some cosmetic alterations to make it "custom for Sam Ash" specifically the epaulettes are kind of unique.

If you are looking for it's value, ebay is probably the best barometer in the world. You have a large enough population of interested parties to get a sense of desirability. The price certainly sounds reasonable.

In the sense that there are probably not a huge number of this exact model (custom for Sam Ash 1768 style Elite with the black epaulets) it is probably rare, In the broader sense of 6-string mid-bowl cut away Elites, I imagine there are quite a few.

Primarily, tell your friend to enjoy the guitar. It is a fine instrument, and a reasonable value. We are, for the most part, guitar players here, not appraisers.
