I have looked at several E-Bay items listed by Bro Bobbie at Oklahoma Vintage Guitar. Why is everything listed as FRG? Do they have some kind of pipeline supply from the factory and how safe is it to buy these FRG's?

From what I understand, Ovation notifies their dealers of what's available (FRG's). Evidently, this guy must grab 'em up and can move 'em.

I wouldn't have a problem purchasing an FRG as their pretty much all real MINOR finish issues.

Though I don't know if I'd buy one sight-unseen . . .

My 1866 is an FRG off ebay. I've gone over it with everything but a microscope and x-ray. The only thing I can find wrong with it is that annoying "FRG" sticker right in the soundhole above the label.

EDIT:
However - I didn't buy it from BroBobby. I don't like his advertising techniques. You have to look hard and long to find out it's not a "new" guitar and only has a 5 year warranty.

Yeah, he sells FRG's just a little under what you can pay for new. I think they grab people who don't read carefully enough.

He does have a U681t up on best offer right now... it appears to be new.

Is it me, or does the finish on his U681t look uneven. You know, the gold "specks".
Check it out:

That's normal. The gold specks are supposed to be more pronounced towards the edge of the guitar. Dave

If anybody ever finds themselves seriously interested in something they have, let me know and I'd be happy to check it out. I live nearby and visit their store from time to time.

Their store website is :
http://www.bestpriceguitar.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.pl

Personally, I've never bought anything from them as they always seem a bit pricey. I should say though that I have never had a negative vibe or experience with the folks at the store, and they are pretty up front about the condition of their stuff (at least in person).

There are several local dealers that always seem to have an ample supply of FRGs (must be a good market for them here). On a positive note I don't think I've ever seen one that didn't look pristine. I just wish the discounts were a little better.

Cheers,
Mike O
