I lead our Praise Band at church, and my 1868 Elite started out great and performed at it's usual peak level through the first half of the service. But after the Pastor's message when we launched into the final set of songs, there was NOTHING coming out of my monitor or the house system. I'm thinking, "No biggie... They probably just forgot to turn me back up on the main board," so I really didn't give it another thought throughout the week. Then, this past Sunday during sound check, again... Nothing! After several battery changes and checking for loose connections and/or dangling wires, there's nothing that appears to be "out of place." I'm the second owner, so there's no warranty consideration (not sure if that'd be covered anyway). So, any thoughts on what the problem might be? It's an OP-X preamp. The good news is I have two authorized Ovation service centers not too far from me, but in the event it's something simple that I can remedy on my own, I'd like to open it up for suggestions here before I take it in for servicing. Thanks. Jeff

They can atleast help you troubleshoot. You could also go ahaead and send it back to the factory for their assesment and price quote to replace. While it may cost you to do that, the job will be Fantastic.

And while I started this post in order to solicit some practical advise, that is exactly the point I want to get across! It IS a true testimony of their reliablility that it's taken 34 years for me to encounter my first problem! If something like this happens only once in 34 years that's a pretty good reliability record. While it's a bit of an inconvenience that I gotta get this taken care of, but by no means is my confidence in Ovations the least bit shaken. Thanks to Cliff and Steve for the suggestions so far. I will check the jack connections, and yes, if need be, I would have absolutely no hesitations about sending it off to "the mothership." Jeff

In the meantime, call Ovation customer service, send them your guitar, and they'll repair it. I'm sure they won't beat you up on the repair cost. That is of course, after you've tried everything else. Tommy

You should be able to look in the hole in the back and see if both the wires are connected to the jack. That's as far as I will go. I tried to see if there was a loose wire on my daughter's Ibanez and pulled off a couple wires when I was trying to take out the preamp. Spent the rest of the weekend after Christmas trying to solder it.

I took it on the road with me this weekend and it performed beautifully. The problem: According to the tech I took it to, he said the battery holder was a bit tricky, in that the battery has to be nestled down in there just right or it won't make proper contact. The cost for the diagnosis and new battery: $8.00 Feeling like a complete idiot for not figuring this out on my own... Priceless! Jeff

Or so I've been told. Obviously a professional wouldn't do anything like that..........

I'd just venture t'guess that it'd be REALLY frustrating . . . .

You have an onboard tuner, right? Is it operational? EDIT: I hate when the answer is given while I am reading and writing a response...but my tuner queston was getting to the battery question...
