I was hoping someone might be able to help me out here. I have an Applause mando that I was tinkering with on the weekend - when the damn nut broke. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement locally or even online, so if anyone has any ideas where I can order a couple I would be grateful!

By the way - just a few more hours before I get to tinker with my new (T28's old) 5858 :D

Check with B&J, your friendly local distributor. Out in Missasauga somewhere.

Thanks Bill - I sent them an email, generally they send me to a local Long & McQuades. I already checked with them and they weren't too interested in ordering me a couple of nuts (jeez, this sounds bad even typing it!)...

Well I'll be - got a message from B&J this morning and they are sending a nut in the mail (didn't have the guts to ask for 2 nuts!)...

After 5 minutes of deep inner reflection upon reading this post, I've decided to simply congratulate you on finding the guitar part you needed.

Congratulations.
Now be careful with your new nut.

I am disappointed, I read this post hoping that the title meant that there was some cure for the "nut" that plays those damn things. Nobody I have found has a solution to my problem of not knowing when to abandon an eight string addiction.

Just cut the bottom two off and you'll be set. (Strings, that is)

There is no cure for the addiction, and I accept all congrats and condolences...

For what it's worth they indeed sent me 2 nuts (US and Import) - one nut fit like a charm and now - I have an extra nut - just in case anyone needs one and a noise making 8 stringer!

Since we have a few mandoliners on this thread I have a question.

How do you tune a mandocello to turn it into an octave mandolin? Do you have to go with lighter strings?

Sorry Stephen

Us bluegrass mandolin players have never recognized a mandocello as being part of decent society.

But wouldn't tuning it to a octave mandoling allow me to slip into a bluegrass festival and be "low keyed" :D

That was a rather bass comment.

Are there any artists or recordings out there that feature the Mandocello?

Thanks CWKII

Note that a mandocello has the same relationship to a mandolin as a bass to a guitar. Also, there have been some recent country hits where a mandocello is featured, due to old age I can't remember their titles, only that I have seen them on CMT.

Yes, playing a mandocello at a bluegrass jam would certainly be "low key", if you could take a round of "Rawhide" in a lower octave you could be certain of a standing Ovation followed by a sitting difficulty because of the boot insertions by Bill Monroe fanatics who seem to always show up in REALLY pointy cowboy boots.

How in hell did a bunch of Kentucky backwoods fans end up in cowboy boots?? I seen that Kentucky country in the 50's and they was wearing Tom McCann work shoes, but what do I know, I was a fan long before those California cowboys when my brother and I roamed the Wheeling, WVA hills.
