I have just won a Glen Campbell 12 string electro-acoustic on ebay. I was excited to see it listed as being a 1968 model. Now after some researching I am concerned to see on this forum that this model didn't appear until 1977. Could some expert have a look and give an opinion. Seller sounds genuine so I haven't requested a serial number yet for fear of offending them if I am completely wrong. Thanks for any help. E-bay Item number: 7336571198

Why would it offend them? So, welcome to the posting part of the board. What part of Scotland are you from? Spent a few years there in the 70's. Mostly around the Firth of Clyde and Holy Loch and environs.

I don't really mind offending the seller as long as I know what I am talking about. ;) I would prefer to have my facts right, especially with an estimated year of manufacture, before questioning them. I'd then be able to judge if seller has just mis-remembered by a year or two or is outright lying. I might just mail them anyway. :)

I've looked at the ebay listing and I think the seller is a bit off on the date of the Glen Campbell 12!! First off is it can't be a '68 because it is not a shiney bowl and the '68's weren't electo-acoustic! Also it has the stacked volume/tone knobs (easy Jeff! ;) ) and they didn't come out until maybe mid to late '70's! This one also has the sealed schaller tuners the early Glen Campbell 12's were open tuners. You still got a great looking and sounding 12 string.....just it's not a '68. Email the seller for the serial number then you'll know! Btw,If you've been "lurking" alot lately then maybe you've read the thread about the 2 "books" (the history of Ovation) making the rounds (pun not intended!) maybe you can get your name on one of the lists....lot of good reading and full of facts on many different models (including GC 12's) Again, Welcome!

We don't see many early Ovation's here in uk (mostly late 70s on) but I should have known better. I have already asked seller to forward serial number. Thanks again for the info.

Remember...a relationship worth having takes time and effort at the start. Become familiar with it's history to show that you are interested in just who it really is and that you are not just attracted to it's curvey shape.

So, either this is a "transition period" guitar or the preamp (w/ tone control) was added later. All that aside, it looks like a great geetar... Congratulations and welcome! Jeff
