Add this to the list of "dumb things people do".
I was attempting to clean up my case (1982 HSC) and things were going well until I got too aggressive on the "Ovation" lettering and rubbed the "aluminum" or silver paint off in a few spots. It appears to be a brushed aluminum effect and I am wondering if anyone has had any luck reproducing it. Is there a "factory correct" paint color? Has anyone sent their case back for "reconditioning"?

If the plastic piece is the same as what was put on the later cases, you may be able to get one from the factory that snaps in as a replacement. I have replaced a couple of missing logo pieces that way.

If you don't care to go the replacement route, I'd get some Testor's silver SPRAY paint (sold for painting models) at a hobby shop or department store. Spray some on to a newspaper out in the garage or someplace well ventilated, and, with an appropriate size brush, brush some of the paint on the logo where you've rubbed the color off. I'd just cover the whole logo to make sure it matched. Be careful not to get brush marks in it, it dries quickly. I'd brush it and leave it alone until dry(within an hour).

This particular brand of spray silver dries reasonably fast, and is very FLAT and aluminum-like in finish. I've done this same thing myself with good results on other things that needed a flat silver finish. Good luck.

Paul B,
Thanks for confirming that the piece should be able to be remove. I was afraid to pry too hard not knowing if it was easily removeable. IT WAS !!!! Just held on with double-sided tape. I'll talk to someone at the factory to see if they have a replacement. I still might have to go Roger's route and re-paint. We'll see. Thanks to you both.

If the factory does not have a replacement, I do. Send me an email. Dave
