Seems that when the Kodiak awakes from hibernation and attempts to get back into a "regular" routine one of the by-products of the reduced metabolism physiological shutdown is a very dense plug that forms at the end of the out door. There are those brave souls that will find this nearly fossilized artifact and engrave images upon it, similar to the East Coast Scrimshaw. and yes, they will also polish it! Just a thought...

I have never heard of it being that hard to where anyone has engraved, polished or had done anything else to them. I just had to call a buddy of mine at Alaska Fish & Game who is one of the head bear biologists and he couldn't hardly stop laughing long enough to ask me if I was serious. Polished, engraved butt plugs, I don't think so...

Probably the highlight was a float trip in rowboats through a canyon, fishing for huge rainbows. We rounded a bend and there was a moose drinking from the river, bald eagles in the trees... just beautiful! Fished out of Soldotna with an outfit called Johnson Bros.
