Hey guys!

I wonder if anyone can answer some questions I have about the various finishes currently available for the 1861 Balladeer.

Specifically, I've seen a blue-green sunburst-type finish go twice on eBay recently, here ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7341477328&rd=1&...

and here ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7342489818&rd=1&...

But thus far, I have yet to see this finish listed officially anywhere. You'll notice the first listing claims the guitar is an 1861 and the finish is called Blue Burst.

Is this right? If so, can you still get it? And if not, what the heck is it?

Also, was it used on any 12-string models?

'Cause I think it's purty.

Thanks, fellas!

I don't know the particulars about the blue balladeers. Could be done 'specially for a vendor...Sam Ash, GC....

or just discontinued.

Mainly, I just wanted to commend you on your Leonard Cohen quote. Alas, it will be lost on the troglodites that frequent this particular part of the world....

In the "Heart in Seattle" DVD, Nancy Wilson plays what looks like a blue 12-string balladeer on the song Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters. It's a great looking shade of blue. I"d be interested in what Ovation calls that color. Anyone?

I've always been particularly fond of the rendition of "Bird on a Wire" from Mad Dogs & Englishmen . . . .

. . . troglodites, . . bah!!

lol. Well, I don't know if troglodytes is the right word for the kind folks on this forum, but I appreciate you giving credit to Mr. Cohen. Quite a songsmith, in my book.

Then again, my version of that book also has a chapter on Bon Jovi, so it could be that I'm just not that discerning. heh.

Mad Dogs & Englishmen - you mean the Joe Cocker album, right? I've always been amazed at his voice. I sing a bit myself, and guys like him, with those "I gargle with suferic acid" voices just captivate me.

Englishplayer, that particular Balladeer 12-string has come up here before....it belongs to Ann. I believe the consensus was that it is a custom Balladeer shallow-bowl 12-string with a custom color.

One of the members here custom ordered a 1771LX in that same color...I don't remember who. There was a picture of it posted here and the color appeared the same, a blue burst.

Looks like 8T. The abilities of the person taking the picture affect the photographic result. 8T's I've seen are definitely blue. Very blue indeed not even a slight touch of green.

The finish on my Tak G-series, is almost identical to that. It's called Ocean Blue, for the Tak. :)

I've neither seen nor heard of the 1861 having that blue color, but it sure looks great. Looking up at the Ovation website, the only known colors are black, cherryburst and natural.

Ovation will do a custom finish on any guitar as long as you pay the upcharge. This one may have been special ordered that way. They don't list them on the site, But they will do it as a special order. There have been several ofc members that have ordered a special finish option.
