Did anyone else catch the guy on the NBC Nightly News who while sifting through what was left of his house found his guitar case. He opened it up, got the guitar out and started playing.

I believe he said " everything gonna be OK, I don't have a house, but I've got my guitar."

We need to keep praying for all the people who have lost everything, and the families of those who didn't survive. I hope our OFC members from that area are OK.

Hhmm... I'm not really much of a prayer man myself, but I think tonight when I pick up my guitar I will be playing for those who lost and those need.News just reported They are painting a black X on the homes that contain the dead so they can retrieve the bodies after they rescue the rest of the survivors. I cant even imagine....

I saw that guy, and yes, a guitar can be a "calm in the storm," so to speak.

Unfortunately, I also saw some footage of the ass end of the human spirit, if you will... All the looters in Walmart filling their shopping carts with such "essentials" as CDs, DVDs, plasma TVs, toys and electronic gadgets for the kiddies, and beer and cigarettes.

It was the most despicable thing I've ever seen. And judging by the looks on their faces, you'd think they'd just won the million dollar jackpot or something -- Jumping around all excited with big, bright smiles on their pusses, pushing their shopping carts that were piled up taller than they were, and not an ounce of shame or guilt evident on a single face -- Including the two uniformed cops that decided to become participants in the very situation they'd been sent in to defuse.

Matt Lauer of the Today show remarked that they must've been acting out of unspeakable desperation... Desperation, my ass!

They were acting upon a cold, calculated choice to sieze an opportunity, with absolutely no regard for anyone but themselves. It was absolutely disgusting to watch.

Yes there are lowlifes everywhere... but I prefer to focus on those who've lost so much. God bless the ones who, like our guitar friend, could find something to hold onto.

I agree with you, Frets. It just torqued me off so much watching that, I had to vent a little... Okay, feeling better now.

I want to say something about this like the funny thing is that the looters in New Orleans won't be able to take all those nice sneakers with them when the federal government forces them to evacuate; and that the local government didn't plan very well, probably eating doughnuts and counting the days to retirement, instead of planning; and that the whole lot of them should go to jail with the looters ... But I won't. For the innocent though, I feel so sorry for them.

I grew up in south florida, we had hurricanes all the time, it was the risk we took, like the rest on the gulf coast from galveston all around to the carolina's coast...we stayed prepared, but building all those condos and casinos right on the beaches...local governments just keep pushing the envelope like there's no tomorrow...well, tomorrow just got here...so now we'll pray for the people to get through it all..

Jeff,

It's OK to vent once in a while.

I was pretty disgusted with the looters too.

Thanks, triple G for understanding. And Woody, I couldn't agree with you more. We are trying to make a difference however we can. My wife and I are helping fund a group of trained volunteers that includes doctors and nurses headed that way with food, supplies and medical care.

Apparently, my post has put a negative spin on what was intended to be a positive thead, and for that I apologize. My intention was not to focus on the negative. Viewing that disturbing footage just really struck a nerve with me this morning. Along with the knowledge that these "people" will most likely get away with their crimes because obviously the focus of the authorities is on search and rescue (as it should be), not chasing down human jetsam.

Again, I apologize Gospel GG, if I turned your thread into a negative thing. I didn't mean to. This is a highly emotional event even for those not directly effected, and today, what I witnessed happened to evoak my emotion of anger. But please don't think that I'm dispassionate towards those that have lost so much. I know firsthand what they're going through. We lost everything we owned in Andrew back in '92. My heart absolutely breaks for these people, which is why my anger was all the more fueled by what I saw.

No apologies necessary.

I think the guy had a Takamine. It was pretty well in tune. Good advetising gimmick.
Maybe the case manufactures could use it too.

"Our guitars can withstand a catagory 5 hurricane and will be ready to play."

Kind of like the old Timex commercials. :)

It's cool to vent, Jeff. It's just both sides of the coin.

Takamine - takes a lickin and keeps on pickin

Wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't somebody down there using an Ovation as a raft.... then playing it!
