Location: atlanta | The Ovation LX series is the subject of a terrific two-page feature story in the latest edition of Frets Magazine (Fall 2005 edition). The magazine is published by the Music Player Group (Guitar Player magazine et al.), and is now on sale at newsstands. The ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro is on the cover.
The article starts on page 20, and is basically a two-page interview with Rick Hall about the design philosophy of the LX series. Six color photos accompany the story, including one of Frank Untermyer displaying the scalloped bracing.
I like the way the writer Matt Blackett introduces the interview:
"Although the Ovation company has been on the guitar-building scene for over 35 years, their design was so revolutionary that many players still view them as a new and radical company. Radical or not, it's clear that Ovation is one of the major players in the acoustic realm and they're here to stay. And, despite massive sales over the years, they are not standing still. In the past two years, the R&D team at Ovation has made several substantive changes in the way they build guitars, and they put all those changes and their new LX line. Here, product manager Rick Hall takes us through the Ovation LX series."
The magazine now has a website, although the content is several months old:
