Location: Burbank | Sure they can. Send it to the factory. Many will attest here that they will do an awesome job on a top replacement. |

Location: North Texas | How much do you want for it? There may be some usable parts. Having the factory rebuild it sounds expensive, but maybe not. How valuable would it be with a new top? Any pix? |

Location: Warren,Pa. | When you send a guitar to the factory to "have the top replaced", that isn't a concise description of what they'll do. They cut the top/bowl assembly away from the neck with a bandsaw, throw out the top and bowl, and attach a new top and bowl to the neck. Bowls are cheap; they're worth less than the labor involved in trying to remove a top from a bowl. I'm sure you'll find one or two folks on this board who have successfully removed a top as a "labor of love" or (more likely) because they have too much time on their hands. From a dollars-and-cents perspective though, it's not worth it. IMHO. John <>{ |

Location: Parrish, FL | I've been watching older Baladeers on eBay and there have been several 111X-X go for less than $350, many in very nice condition. So there is why many are saying find another guitar. It would cost more to repair the one you have than to replace it with an instrument of similar quality, much more if you are patient.

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | The Gentleman from Pennsylvania is pretty accurate in his assessment. Bowls & tops are replaced as units at The MotherShip. Neighborhood of $400.00-$500.00. Excellent craftsmanship, by universal acclamation.
"Too much time on your hands" is also a fair speculation. It took me about 50 idiot-hours to redo the top on a very trashed Celebrity a coupla years ago. Kinda like doing upholstery work- do it once to appreciate the labour and expertise; thereafter, hire it out!
Somebody on FleaBay was selling "wallhangers" as birdhouses awhile back but, Geez, what an ignominious fate for a musical instrument.
If you're throwing it out, send it to Buckaroo, me, or one of the other addled members of this Merry Band into resurrections & restorations. |
