CMT had one of the Crossroads specials on last week with new country band, Sugarland, and Bon Jovi paired up. Was a fun show.

I know ya'll really rather git the scoop on Jovi (heh, heh), but this here thread's 'bout the dude from Sugarland (sorry, dunno his name) rockin' all over the stage with 3 Ovation mandos...a red burst, natural wood, and a blue burst. Some nice publicity for Ovation, I'd say. The O's were in close ups throughout the whole show, and sounded great. Ya'd swear the guy was a guitar rock star with that stage presence. He was into it.

Sugarland stole the show, IMHO. Ritchie Sambucca still looks like he really enjoys playing (and no, Cliff, he didn't wear the "gay hat") but Jon looks like he's just tired and a bit burned out. Could be the grueling and insane promotional schedule for the new cd. The Sugarland singer sparked the show with a great voice, high energy, and good stage presence.

SAW IT TOO. and you are so right. I was thinking of posting the sighting but have been busy. Ovation mandolins seem to show up more than guitars, but I am prejudiced, so what do I know. It was a good show.

There are not many (any) other good choices in plugged in mandos. Whereas there are many, many fine plugged in guitars. Dave

The Mandolin player in Sugarland is Kristian Busch, I caught the show too. It was really good.
Ovation should sign him up for an endorsement deal. Sugarland has already put two noteworth singles out to Country radio and the Cd is selling very well. these guys will be around a long time. For the members in the Atlanta area, all of these members were playing the atlanta Club circuit individually before joining forces and getting the deal as a group in neashville.

Have to agree, I've played Ovation mandolins and the sound plugged in is great.

Steve

They sounded like a great group and here's to their success.

I had the hots for a U.S.-made Ovation mandolin, but it was just way too expensive for me, as an amateur, and as my third tier instrument (behind guitar and bass). In spite of some people's comments, I liked the sound of the Ovation mando. And I dig that it doesn't look like a typical mando. Since this is diverse group (especially in regard to the models and brands of instrument owned), I'll confess that I found the perfect substitution: A Godin A8 mandolin. The most affordable quality acoustic/electric mandolin I've yet found. Very high quality, sounds great, looks distinctive and classy. Especially the cognac burst. I'm proud to be seen in public with it, as I am with almost all my guitars. Except for my project guitar, originally an Ibanez electric. But that's another story.
