Has anyone else tried Tortex Fins ?

I'm using the .88mm and I can get some truely amazing sounds with this thing. Using the bumpy side, strumming at just the right angle creates tons of great harmonics and an almost electric flange effect.

great fun.

The Dunlop Nylon Fins are the only picks I ever use. I bought a large quantity of them online (72) because nobody seems to stock them around here. They are the coolest I've found yet. The nylon fins have a better grip than the tortex but a little gorilla snot would fix that...LoL!

The Tortex are almost all I use, .50's & .73's.

I bought a gross of the .5's when they first came out . . . found them too thin . . . broke about half of em. Maybe I'll try some .73's (if I can find 'em).

Really? I've broken strings with these, but one thing I love about them over other nylons is I don't seem to be able to break the Tortex.

I used the Tortex picks, until I tried some Ice Picks. These work really well, and they stick to your guitar, just don't let them set on the finish as they do have a reaction on Gibson's finishes, so I put them on the pickguard just in case.

Dunlop Lucky 13 picks make me play great. I think it's the pictures.

The blue tortex 1MM picks are what I use. I bought a bag of 72 off of the 'Bay for about 14 dollars, I think. I have a lot of Jemsite.com picks as well (where I admin the classified section) and I believe those are Delrin? Very nice picks as well, also Dunlops.

I like both the blue tortex 1mm and the purple 0.96 Gator Grips from Dunlop.

Has anyone else become hooked on MIO speedpicks? they're shiny nylon with just enough lettering for grip, but the trick is the twist at the end, so that you can angle your hand down a little...

ok. ok. so they're not what everyone's used to, but if anyone else started on upright bass like me, the "cocked wrist" is not something easily overcome.

Have you tried Wedgies? They're shaped about like a Tortex (and, in fact, are available in Tortex), but have a slight indentation to facilitate a better grip. They're great if you've got some arthritis in your thumb joints (as I do) or if you prefer a light grip on your pick (as I also do.).

Regardless of nylon, tortex or other materials, I was curious to know if others round here were getting similar tonal characterists from the use of the unique "Fin" design?

Tho, now I will be looking to try some of other types of picks mentioned here.

In our (sigh)youth, my brother and I would take a fine file (even a sharp fingernail file would work)and carefully file a fine "sawtooth" edge on one side of a standard shaped plastic (like the standard Tortex by Dunlop) pick. So we had one smooth edge and one sawtooth edge to get standard pick sound or one rich in harmonics as described whether with acoustic or electric. If you do this, you will get even more of the raspy harmonics than with the "fins".
