Location: Amarillo, Texas | I made the mistake of loaning to a friend's son an early 90's Legend Ovation...which he promptly hocked. :( It was my wonderful first guitar. His family family attempted to make good, but had his help on finding another. They purchased one on E-Bay that shows to be an Ovation 1111-6 guitar but doesn't appear to be anywhere close to the same caliber guitar. It has a black neck, no serial number that I can locate, with no electronics, etc. Is it possible this is a fake Ovation? |

I would suggest you take a look at www.ovationguitars.com especially under "archived" and the "Timeline" sections.
Reading "The History of Ovation Guitars" would be a great help as well. What you have is a balladeer model which is constructed differently than a "Legend".
There is a lot to learn and share here!

Tell your friend's son to get off the crack. |

You need to get a clean model 1717 or 1777 out of the deal. That is what you should look for.

Yours is a sad situation. I bet you had the good intentions of trying to help a kid out.
I remember loaning my brother-in-law and item. At the time I took the mindset that I better be prepared to concider this item a gift. I figured right.
The replacement guitar offered is less than what you loaned. But you already know that. They really should have consulted you befor they purchased the replacement off of e-bay.
Good luck.
Please keep us posted. |

Ovation's have always been wonderful, sounding great, substantial in your hand, easy action, etc., but this one feels like it doesn't belong. As to the 1111-6, if I understand Ovation's "code", the "hyphen 6" means it's a white guitar, which it isn't, it's a natural color. I'm new to trying to check up on guitars, as I've always purchased them new, so maybe I'm just confused!
