I have recently bought an Ovation CC57. I have tried various preamps but get a either a very faint sound or a top end distorted middley sound that is still lower tan it should be.
I am assuming that the CC57 requiers a preamp that has some special qualities or could there be a problem with the guitar?
I have serached google etc found a few people with the same problem, but not one solution so I would appreciate any help on this subject. I would even build my own preamp if I knew what parameters were required. [LIST] [LIST]

Eric you might try an effects pedal/stomp box to boost your passive A/E setup. There are EQ pedals available on the ebay for a modest investment. You might be able to contour the sound to your liking. If there is no preamp on board the guitar, you do probably need a boost of some sort. Maybe slightly heavier high side strings would help. Cheers!
