Because their filters can't tell the difference between a guitar 'string', a guitar 'top', a guitar 'waist', a guitar 'neck', a guitar 'nut' with how those simple terms might be used in an otherwise illegal activity... Duh... :rolleyes:

Child porn is illegal and access to it should be curtailed. There are those who will look for the extreme examples to bitch and complain but that is their nature. Sure there are some grey areas but that is true everywhere.
Bring me back the innocence of the 50s, 60s, 70s when you could actually discipline a child and parents accepted responsibility beyond giving birth. |

While the theory and intent of the plan has merit, the reality is that the result will be degraded service for everyone, and anyone who actually wants to get to the "restricted" sites, will do so via technology that either already exists or will exist to circumvent the new "firewall."
There are other countries that have attempted this, and corporations attempt these restrictions all the time. I use the word "attempt" because the reality is that "deterrence" is probably a better word than "restriction."
A more prudent and cost effective in the long run program would be to use the current traffic monitoring available, and either block the sites based on that, or go after those accessing certain sites. I don't condone this either, but if it's a choice of degrading everyone's service, or just going after people who bring restricted material into the country, I would opt for the latter.

And then they get caught and then fired. It's not going to make the australians better people, it's sort of retarding. |

| True story (or maybe apochryphal - who knows?) -
When filtering software was first developed it looked for words and combinations of words. The first way round this was to put a random letter on the front of every word and the filtering software was pscrewed because the word wasn't in it's list of banned words. So the software guys programmed their filters to look inside words and delete any word containing a banned word. The British town of Scunthorpe disappeared from the internet for weeks. The town council and several hundred businesses were not amused. |
