Where can I get info on maintainance for this, my favourite old beastie? It's not played to death, but it is old.

Sweet loving action, I'm not sure a better R&R guitar was ever made.

PS:
If I wanted to replace the pickups, would anyone have recomendations on what would work well and keep the old sound?

Hi, welcome to the board!

If you wish to keep the old sound, you should just keep the original pickups...are they working ok?

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, it still sounds wonderful. But it needs cleaning, detailing, and once upon a time someone installed active electronics in it. I had them removed(that wasn't factory, was it?)and could really stand to find a schematic or owners manual to make sure it's back the way it was meant because the selector switch sounds have never impressed me much.

Hmmmm, Maybe I'm not specific enough.
One pickup has hairline crack. Fake gold bridge is pitted and corroded.(I used to sweat heavily :-) )
White trim on neck is starting to break off now and again.

Do you have a few of pics you could post? There is a lot of knowledge on this board if you could give the guys a look see.
The gold isn't fake but it's only gold plated...just imagine what a guitar with solid gold parts would cost these days!

I have a pic of my 1233 but can't see how to get it on here. How do I attach an image on my computer to this thread?

Go into Member Access, Photo Gallery and open up your own gallery. Upload the pics into there and then you can either tell everyone here to check out your gallery, put a direct link here or link directly to the pic so that the pics show in your post. Really a lot easier than it sounds.

So, where would I get info on how this beauty was originally wired? Never did see the purpose of the 5-way selector switch; put the pickups in and out of phase, etc.

I don't think the Thead ever had a 5 way selector switch....

It had a master volume, 2 tone knobs, a blender knob (in place of a selector switch), and an off/on/lead switch in the upper shoulder.

As usual Moody is wrong. The 3 way selector is off/inphase/outphase. But what would he know - he's just an idiot that chases bad guys for a living.

Maybe the 5 position switch was put in with the active pu's.

Thanks standingovation.

I can see from your website that my guitar has been badly bastardized. the 3 way selector is currently wired to choose between front, back, or combined pickups.

Have to put rewiring on the job list. Maybe the wife will let me sneak it on the honeydew list... ;)
