So Kaki gave herself a Christmas present of something with 20:

It's a new Double 10 pedal steel guitar built in Vermont by Fessenden Steel Guitars:

She intends to use it in her upcoming (Chicago) recording sessions for her third cd.

I can't say I'm surprised. She loved the Gretsch lap steel, so this would be a logical step.

Best to all---

I find it intersting that the neck inlays are from the University of Texas Longhorns.

I'd like to see what she does with it. Robert Randolph just smokes! It's really something to watch, almost like a drummer, because you've got your right hand doing one thing, the left hand another, and then you're jamming on the pedals. Plus, if my memory serves me right, your knees get in the action.

As a former, drummer, I can see her adapting to this like a duck to water.

I did like her faux-koto, and I'd like to see more of it. However, she'll probably get more people paying to see her if she plays this. For you guys who missed her concerts with this koto thing, it was like listening to an angel.

Hi Dave ... maybe she was inspired at the Fillmore SF show long ago when I first met you and Kaki -- David Lindley did some amazing work on a pedal steel during his set and then Robert Randolph was incredible when he was backing up the Blind Boys of Alabama. Of course, Kaki was the one who really wow'd the crowd that evening. Best wishes for the holiday season.
