Really enjoying the site and reading about other peoples' love for Ovations. I can't make it through a day without mine. Here's my two: An 1112-4 from 1974 with many acoustic gigs under it's belt and rescued from a hurricane in a former life ...the OHSC didn't make it... And a 1617 from 1982 that I just acquired and still getting used to -it has a little bit different feel than the 1112.

Greetings. I can imagine it, but, curious for more details on how the hard case died, but the guitar lived on.

Thanks for the replies! Edzep, when I bought the guitar about 10 years ago, I was told it had been in it's case on the first floor of a 2 story house when the storm surge hit. When the owner realized what was going on he brought it up a floor and pulled the guitar out but the case was dead. I actually saw the case and was given the option of taking it or a gigbag or a generic Ovation case -black with no logo- at no extra charge I assume because I was a regular in the shop. I took one look at the original case and took the offer -it was terrible, it was warped practically beyond recognition and the interior materials were completely destroyed. The guitar has a slight wave around the bridge but the bridge is still solid, the tone, neck and action are perfect. It's an old friend at this point and been all over the southeast US. I wish I'd kept the case now, you hang it on the wall it could probably pass for some abstract sculpture.
