Usually Ovations are pretty consistent with their sound when comparing the same model.

Try the new strings and play it a while. You just might have the shake the dust out of it.

i took 5 shims out,new strings, gave the rod a twist, action is perfect on upper frets but starts to get high at the 9th fret.

hard tension salverez's didnt help the sound at all. its the same setup, same strings as my 70's county artist but it sounds like mud. im not impressed at all.

think it needs a neck reset. but after paying the price i did im not gonna pay 200-300 more for a reset...feel like running it over with the truck...i paid $150 for my old 1624 at a pawn shop and it sounds 100% better than this 1983 1624....jason

if you give up on it, take it to GC and trade for somethin you could use, that way you don't risk getting "egg on your face" when you try to sell it... that's what I'd do... phil

Check for loose braces and that the bridge/shim area is fully seated. Probe for bad adhesion.

I'll take a great voice over pretty any day. That 1114 I sent you is a prime example.

checked all that mike. im extreamly anal when it comes to checking stuff out. any time i buy a guitar the first thing i do is pull the strings off, check for loose or cracked braces and the bridge. this thing is in great condition except the neck just looks and feels like it needs reset and it dosnt have any sound. played side by side my old 1624 drowns it out.

im gonna give if a few weeks and ill make my dicison on if im keeping it or not...

verry true mike. the 1114 is the best sounding wood top i own. jason

after some more work i got the artist setup and playing great. the action could be a tad lower at the upper register but the nylon strings arnt too hard on the fingers. but ive found something else i want so this 1624 maybe for sale.....jason

Easy come, easy go?
Well Jason, this may be your lot in life...
You may be destined to get guitars, fix them up, and past them on all the better.
At least the next owner will get a better deal than you did...
