I'm about a half hour ride from there. Gil and Mitch are even closer.

I saw that segment and I've seen other "How It's Made" episodes. That narrator can make anything sound dull.

Yes they did! I'm sure that our own Weas will have a lot of stories to tell about the snow pile. As of this morning, I'm still trying to make contact with my parents who happen to reside in the tail-end of the "snow belt" just northwest of Syracuse.

I've been to Farmingdale a few times, but for reasons other than guitar-related stuff. I still have yet to check out the D'addario plant. I'd like to find out, one day, if they allow making purchases of their strings [bulk might even be better] to the general public, as opposed to going to a music store for them.

I toured the GHS plant some years ago. For me, it was a real snoozer.

But the free banjo strings were great at the end of tour! I mean, how can you screw up plain wire? :D

Didn't catch it, but...

I deal with with web-tension and multi-axis servo controls on wire winding machines often. Guitar string assembly could be done on a lathe with a screw-feed. Now, multi-strand cable assembly, or twist machines with dies that "spin" as the cable is being pulled through, all the while maintaining the correct tension.... Now that's exciting. NOT!!! :D :p :D :p

I've just made a couple of 14 strand Flemmish Bow Strings which is done that same way, Fred. Only by hand.
