To join the rest of the stupid questions I've asked, is there a need to lube tuners now and then? I beleive I have Schaller's (sp) on both my 1614 and the 1681 Adamas. (correct me if I'm wrong) And if so, what do you use?

ive never lubed any of my machines but i dont see why you cant pull the worm out and hit it with a little graphite or light machine oil...jason

I didn't know if they were "life lubricated" which means they die when they run out of lubrication.

Just to state the obvious; if they are working fine, fine!
If they are sticking or dragging, a drop of oil shouldn't hurt, if applied carefully. If that don't work, rebuilt/replace.

Arent your Schallers 'sealed' tuners? The only tuners you should need to oil are the old Klusons with the hole in them(put there for oiling), or opened back ones, or the ones that aren't sealed - they just have a cover over the gear.

I would compare these sealed tuners to the CV (constant velocity) joints on car axle shafts. As long as the rubber boot is intact and not torn (keeping the bearings greased), the bearings will last forever (theoretically).

So as long as the seal on the tuner is intact, you shouldn't need to touch it.
