We haven't had a string topic in at LEAST a few hours. ...lol
So, I'm looking at a new set again.
I know I kinda like the Martin SP's in light (4100). But the "Clapton's Choice" looks like it may be worth trying. Looking at the spec sheet on both looks like they may be identical? Both are 92/8 Phosphor Bronze. Both 12/16/25/32/42/54.
The question araises, are these really just the same strings repackaged for marketing reasons?
Has anyone that has used both noticed a difference between the two? |

I've only used the SP's, not the EC's. I like them, but I do find that quicker than with other strings they seem difficult to tune. Yeah, I know tell me "it's the damn guitar". Whatever.
Honestly, I keep coming back to good old DA EJ16's. They're about $3 a set, sound good, play good, last OK, easy to string. I'm not one of these girlie-men that goes fussing around about strings like it's brain surgery ...

Location: Reno, NV | Its OK.. I'll be the first to admit it. Im a little weirdo when it comes to strings..lol. Most strings don't last me more than 2 weeks, if that. Why? ... not because I wear them out, but becuase every set I try, I get that strange feeling in the back of my head that says " There is probably better out there, and you are missing out, try some other brands." ... lets just say I've been making D'addario, Markley, Martin, and DR happy for a while now... ;-( |

They're not SP's.
Yak, you should try the DR Extra Life (if you haven't already). On my Adamas they sound better than anything else I've tried and they last a long time. |

That said: I've got EC's on my CB right now and they're driving me nuts trying to tune them. At least I hope that is the problem. I've got a set of D'Addario EJ26 I'm going to try next.

ive got about 15 sets of the martin sp's that i keep handy for guitars im selling...i just dont like the feel of a uncoated string...
i use the martin sp's on my academy. they have been on it for about 6 months now...still got some life left in em..lol jason |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | How odd,but there`s a world of difference in strings,my standard (acoustic ) strings I judge all strings by ,are msp 3100,for ex. rotosound strings I find more pliable , Tomastik are stiff , with elixir I would choose a bigger gauge ,ernie ball`s seem to break easier,now the more pliable ,the more overtones ( harmonics )and the stiffer strings sound kind of "bare",easy enough,yet changing gauge is another chapter ,MSP 4000 have a lot more overtones than SP 4100,yet are made of the same material,and YES , the Guitar has a remarkable influence ,interaction Instrument-Strings is of great impact on the total sound,as is PLAYING on it,nowadays Martin even recommends string gauge,but that is a guideline for New Guitars,as a rule of thumb,I would say ; Heavy strings on a New Solid Top,when Top is getting somewhat "settled" ,say two - three years,use a lower gauge, ( I know , it can take ten years for a Solid Top to reach its full potential,but the first couple of years make a usable difference )then there are the "special " strings,Blue Grass strings... etc. ,anyways,in the old days guitar makers did not make recommendations,they just told me to go out and try some,well,not much has changed since then ,but for those who are interested :

True story - I have a friend who works at the Jet Propulsion Lab in California. His business card says "John Smith - Rocket Scientist". I think that's SO cool.

They said that they order the core wires from a different supplier than they use for their other strings. |
