Now look what all of you OFCers have done!!!
Witko's palm tree soprano looks cool, but it also looks 'spensive.

Location: big island | goober, whatever you do, i recommend against a soprano model. get a tenor and you will appreciate it more. a tenor is fuller sounding and has a much better low end that as a guitar player, you will appreciate. i also recommend using a low, wound G string which makes more sense and sounds better. tenor string sets come in a low G option.
tupperware's tenor "kala" may still be available. check with him. last i knew, he wanted $235 with a brand new hard case and an Ovation coaster. his can also be plugged in as it has the Shadow pickup installed. that would be a great uke to have and play. he may still have photos posted in his gallery. nope. not there. check page 2 of the sell/ trade forum. scroll down and you will see his posting. |

if tuppy no longer has his "kala", you can find one on eBay. another brand that won't bite your wallet too bad is Lanikai. i can only recommend their tenor model. anything less absolutely sucks. they have koa models available as well as mahogany and are fairly inexpensive.
i have not tried the "pono" brand yet, but I know john kitakis who makes ko'olau ukuleles. he is a perfectionist and has done some guitar work for me. he is importing the "pono" ukes and if he says they are excellent, i would believe him. there are several on eBay being sold by his business associate. great looking ukes at a great price. |

Location: Athens, GA & Gnashville | Thanks a million, Lanaki!! I was waiting for you to chime in with your expertise. There is an appeal to me in that high 4th string, but when I get a uke, I will try both high and low 4th strings.
I was watching the tribute to George Harrison, and McCartney (or George's son Dahni) said that George was never without several ukes when he traveled. Then Paul did a swingy version of "Something" with a uke and it was outstanding!! |

(the house of orgasm). there was another artist who enjoyed painting the nudies down there in tahiti by the name of edgar leeteg. (1930s thru 50's.) he had an excellent technique for black velvet paintings. |
