When John Budny sent back my '74 Legend with a new neck I was amazed: the neck felt DOUBLE in thickness and weight, a real LOG. When did the sleek Balladeer and Legend necks of the early 70's gain weight and WHY? (I had to replace mine because the fingerboard was shot). The neck of my new AD 1769 is pretty thick as well ....

I don't think you could put a K bar on an older Ovation. The bowl isn't set up for it....

When the K-bar was introduced in production line O's, they really got top heavy.

Only John knows for sure, Dobro.

Shudda specified which of the 4398 Ovation neck profiles/finishes you wanted.

Maybe the profile of the neck had to change to a deeper 'V' to accomodate the K-Bar.

I've held a K-Bar and I thought it was pretty light.

I don't think you can put a K-bar neck on an older bowl. The K-bar actually attaches to the bowl with 2 large bolts. It might just be that the profile of neck used is larger than the old ones.

The Kaman bar is definitely heavy, but a personal favorite of mine. Almost always, the neck stays straight, and it rarely needs any adjustment IMO.

Sometimes, I wish that my non-Os can be equipped with the K-bar to keep me from spending a fortune on set-ups.

I like the K-bar too. Those necks become just about indestructible with that K-bar in that. I had my paddlehead 1717-X accidentally drop-kicked about 20 feet by a stage hand in Branson once. The guitar landed on the HEADSTOCK and I just knew it was a-gonner. Besides a nice ding in it, I was able to pick it up, tune it, and keep rehearsing. I LOVE that guitar!!
