Whoa Guys. I paid a bit more than the auction closed at but I still did very well. Fresh set up and strings too.

The guitar was a trade in from its origional owner. I talked to the owner of the music store and his description was that there was not much wear and tear on the guitar, just a few pick marks that should buff out. Minimal wear on the fretboard. We'll see.

He said that if I wasn't happy to give him a call and he would take care of it. Not an implicit return policy, but I felt pretty good talking to him. He is an Ovation dealer in Calhun, GA. Said the PO was a long time customer and that he had serviced the guitar last year, replacing the pick-up under warrenty.

Overall I'm pretty excited. Now I need to beg forgivness from SWMBO. Worse case is that I compare this 1537 to my 1681 and decide which one stays. A year ago it was the 1681 when the UTE arrived. I've missed the 1537 ever since. It is a classic beauty!

If anyone is interested in a 1681-8 that is an 8.5+ on a 10 scale drop me a line. I just had it set up and the electronics checked out and it is a beaut. (This is going to be hard!)

right place, right time. right on, blues!

the 1537 is excellent for slack key. meet me in pigeon forge in june!
we are going to add a few days to our trip. i'm gonna drive up to illinois and spend a couple of them visiting my mom who will get to meet her new granddaughters for the first time. then i am going to drive back down through nashville to show my wife the opry and ryman and maybe sneak a peek at gruhn's guitars while there. we'll get back on 40 towards asheville. maybe i can detour up to oak ridge. that will probably be the weekend, either the 16th or 17th thru your neighborhood. my wife is an island girl and has only been to the mainland once, to reno and carson city a few years ago.

Randy,

What month is your trip again? I'm sure we can cross paths since you are going to be so close, within 20 miles.

NO! The 16 and 17th of June I'll be at the beach in eastern N. Carolina. How about routing to Emerald Isle for a few days?

Your wife really needs to experience the Atlantic ocean.

If the back-door ain't shut...walk on in! :D :p

I got my '05 Collectors the same way. If it's a dealers ad, then the thing is probably hanging for sale in his store, why should we let some local walk in the door and bring the auction to a sudden and mysterious end? :p

Wish I'd seen it first. :(

Good job; good grab; good Lord I'm sad! ;)

Well, she showed up at my desk Friday morning and all I've really been able to do is check for damages and set it back in the case. The seller pack it very well in a Fender guitar box with all the original inside packing parts and it arrived without any issues.

I have looked it over pretty closely and the only issue I can find is a single 1/32" chip in the finish along the binding on the lower bout. I found that on my third inspection and only by running my finger along the perimeter. This guitar is that clean! Not another mark on it anywhere. The frets and fretboard are in very good shape, no chips, dings, etc on the headstock, it really is a 9.5. I can't believe how fortunate I am to have scored this guitar.

I need to tune her up and give her a spin this afternoon. I'll probably replace the strings with 1818's next week. The seller put new strings on it, but I'm not too crazy about the tone. No sense tossing a new set of strings though.

The top has a very pretty grain and has aged to a nice golden hue as you would expect. I'll post some pictures as soon as SWMBO cools down a bit and I can fuss over the guitar without causing too much grief. It was a bad week to have a new guitar show up if you know what I mean.

Anyway, if you can't tell, I'm real pleased with my new toy. I apologize for bragging so much, but if I can't do it here I guess it can't be done anywhere.

Grif,

The 1537 in my album is one that I sold last May when I bought the UTE.

I need to update the album with pics of the new critter.
