Just saw Keith Urban on TV (The Footy Show for any of you Aussies) playing a Maton and performing with his band which included a banjo player.

There was the banjoist? with the classic rock stance..legs apart, instrument hanging low...and he was playing power chords.

Dunno much about banjos but it looked like it had six strings .....can you play power chords on a banjo?

He may have been playing a 6-string. I know he also plays a 5-string, but sometimes with a flat pick. Keith also plays the 6-string on certain songs.

They were probably playing a Deering 6-string:

Check them out: Deering Banjos

Interesting way to get the banjo "sound" without having to tame the 5-string Beast!

They also make a 12-string version!

Keith, or one of band members, seems to be playing a 6-string banjer a lot lately. Looks like a Deering guitar-banjo; and no, you will NEVER get anything remotely resembling a power chord out of this bastard instrument. They make for a pretty good THUD sound, though!

Power chords? Not much sustain with those skin head instruments.

Upon hearing from his doctor that he only had six months to live, a man exclaimed,
"But doctor, is there anything I can do?"
"I'm afraid not." said the doctor. "But, there is one thing you could try..."
"What, what, I'll try anything..."
"Find yourself a homely girl that plays the banjo and move to Pittsburgh."
"Will that help me live longer?"
"No, but it will make time go by really slowly..."
