Hey All,
A friend of mine has a Preacher Del. 12 string he is thinking about selling, but would like some kind of idea of it's value. I told him I would try to find out for him. I have not seen the guitar but I'm sure he would let me check it out if anyone is interested in it. he has told me that it is in excellent shape and that it is black. OHSC included, I think. He has heard a wide variety of values for it from different folks, but I told him I would ask the experts. Any help or questions welcome.

PD 12s in good+ condition have sold in the 700-1250 and higher range here and on e-bay over the past couple years.

the electronics/preamps are reasonably hard to repair or replace if there are any issues. replacement parts are almost non-existent tho there are members here that are working on replacements and work-arounds. and quite a few have been resuscitated.(preamps).

if it is in original condition with no mods, and is fully functional with no major cosmetic or playability issues.. 800-1000 is not unreasonable in my opinion.. and if excellent cond much more.

these are great electric 12s in my opinion.

as always condition and timing are everything.

I had a PD 6 which another member now owns and am having an Ovation 12(mutt) built from parts.. but no original elx.

StephenT and others that have owned them may pop in.

again these are great electric 12s... and if in good condition you should buy it from your friend and keep it.

Just what I need , another guitar. I'll see what I can find out about the condition of the electronics etc. and check on if it is all original.

Glenn's estimates are in the ballpark. Timing is everything. I sold my mint black PD12 for $1500 about 1 1/2 years ago when the frenzy was peeking. Since then they seem to have settled around the $1000 mark.

I still feel Ovation makes one of the best acoustic 12s and the best electric 12s I have ever had the pleasure of playing. I hear the Hamer 12s are exceptional also but have never had an opportunity to try one.

My Deacon 12 is a keeper and that one will not be going anywhere and meets all of my 12 string electric needs.

Beatlejuice53, if you are in the market for a 12, make a deal and grab it. If not, I can't imagine someone on the board not giving it a new home.

These are great 12s..

but I do have to admit that I'm looking forward to a "light" one using that uk body.. my only complaint with the Preacher/PD is that they're bricks..
action, playability, and tone is fantastic when set up right.
they look and sound great.
but they weigh a ton. JMO tho..

you should still buy it.

That weight is part of what gives them amazing tone and sustain.....

Not every model is right for every player. I like the mass of some of the all Mahogany Solids.

Many variables to finding your favorite flavors.

I owned one for a while and I thought it was the best electric 12 I ever played/owned. Only reason I sold it was I just didn't play electric 12 that often, but it was a great guitar and I do still miss it from time to time.

Thanx for the info, guys. I'll pass it along to the owner. I dought that I will end up with it, but you never know. Being mainly a bass player, weight shouldn't be a problem. I'm used to playing Steinbergers and a Washburn doubleneck....ugh. Will keep you informed if anything happens with it.
