The gist seems to be, that it takes 125 years to grow a spruce to harvest, and they only started planting replacement spruces 35 years ago, and we will run out of the mature spruce in about 6 years. Once it's gone, it won't be until 85 years from now that they be a supply. Could be, but people are always finding substitutes. I'd like to point out that Adamas has been using renewable woods as a core in their tops. Maybe someone from the Marketing Department should point out, how good the Adamas tops are, and how environmentally friendly they are. Adamas was really ahead of its time. I'm proud to own one. Also, I calculated that my country artist's top came from a tree that was born at least by the time of the American Revolution. I'd like to thank Tupperware for selling it so that I could buy it from someone else. It's a great instrument.

Seriously, this sounds confusing and ripe for misunderstanding and misinterpretation. Do custom agents really know the difference between Brazilian Rosewood and Indian Rosewood on sight? And what about my special cultured (faux) tortoise shell pick? Will they really know the difference? Even my cheap (but so lovable) medium Fender picks purchased by the gross could look like the real thing to those expertly trained customs agents. All the more reason to travel with your Adamas, I guess.

Spruce is not going to run out because of guitars. It will run out because of other uses. But so what? As you say, Adamas guitars have already demonstrated that alternatives exist and can be superior to other approaches. If large diameter Sitka becomes too expensive, then maybe we will start seeing more three and four piece glue-ups on guitar tops. Things will always change. New techniques will be found. Only those who are hopelessly tradition bound (ie, the guys that worship the pre-war Martins) need to worry. Those of us that look for new ideas (eg, Ovation fans) have nothing to worry about.

So, you land in England (providing you can get it out of the US) with your Tak. They sieze it. You want it back? Prove it's pre-CITES BRW. Hopefully before they destroy it. Same thing even if it's IRW. They suspect it's BRW, it's gone. You want it back? Prove it's IRW. Or it's not ivory, or tortise shell, or any other species on Apendix 1. _____ gh1

It is the commons like us that will get burned. This may be all the more reason to travel with a Traveler Pro. They're 100% hard maple with a few odd bits of plastic and metal.
