Hi everyone, I'm a newbie here. I've got several
queries I'll try to be succinct as possible.
I'm looking for a new guitar (I've owned a '93 collectors, and a 90's celebrity) and I need a C neck, definately not V. What are my options?
My requirements seem to all point to a MOB but reading here, they don't seem very good, is that the case? Or is it that they are not a "real" Ovation?
I don't actually "need" to plug the guitar in ever, I'm returning to Ovation mainly for the sturdy build.
Pricewise, around celeb dlx/ US Standard.
Lastly, I'm in the UK, and trying various models can be difficult sometimes due to limited stock.

I don't know the shapes of the necks, but the neck on my old Celeb hurt my hand to play it. All my US O's have about the same profile and are very comfortable - although they are older. I played a mid 90's(?) Custom Legend (no gloss) that had a very uncomfortable neck. Try a late 70s early 80s US model and see if you like the profile, I think they are all similar from that era. And if not, someone will chime in here and correct me.

Flashart,
I play a '92 Legend with an easier neck profile than all my Balladeers that preceded it.

I think the folklore models will have too wide a neck for me.
I played a Celeb a while back which had a very small C shape.
Yesterday I tried a Pinnacle which I would describe as small D.
I just cannot get on with a V shape.

Yep, Folklores are one of the wider profiles but shallow. I've never played a Celebrity. I've played Balladeers and Artists from the beginning. My '92 Legend is the only Legend I've ever played, and it's the easiest by far. They refer to it as a shallow-V. But, different strokes as they say. I wouldn't know a Pinnacle if it bit me on the butt... :)

Please go pick up any of the new LX models. The V profile of the K-Bar necks is all but gone. I think you'd really enjoy an Elite T if you were considering a MOB. you'd be getting all the benefits of the US Made model for not that much more than a celeb dlx.

Cheers for the suggestions. I will certainly look at an Elite T. (Although finding one to try may not be easy).
As I said before, I had a '93 Collectors and that had what I'd call a severe V. It proved too much and I reluctantly had to let it go.

Perhaps Masters Templeman, Schroeder, Hillwalker, Jerome, Tom, Carl, Terry, or any of the other brothers from across the sea (who's names elude me right now) will help you locate an an LX model to sample. Then, if you like the neck, all you have to do is scour Ebay for a good deal and ask any of us over here if we can help get it home. Of course there's always Al (he loves teasing drug-sniffing dogs with the lingering scent of pepperoni & sausage in his packing material) who seems to get guitars shipped over with no problems. :D :p :D :p

Good luck!!
