I'm thinking of buying an Ultra Deluxe 1517S from a local individual later today. The battery holder is missing, he said it broke. Since it's Sunday I can't find out if those parts are still available. Does anyone know the availability of that part or parts in general?

Also what about that model of guitar. Is there a difference between the 1517 and the 1517s? What are the specs etc..? Opinions about it's quality etc...?

Well I guess I'll reply to myself for any of you that might have been curious about the answers to my questions. I did notice someone on here a while back trying to find out info on the same guitar model#.

The parts apparently are still available because a kind person from Ovation is sending me what I need.

The "S" at the end of the model# means it has a solid top.

I'm happy with the guitar so far, though I haven't tested it electric because I don't yet have a battery in there. BTW, anyone care to tell me what the battery is for exactly? The other Ovation I have doesn't have a battery though it is electric also.

The battery powers the preamp. What is your other O? All of mine with preamps take a battery. Sometimes it's hidden inside.

Bluejay ... sorry no one got back to you. Usually new members get the ritual hazing, somehow your post fell through the cracks. Please don't take it personally and give us another chance to welcome you to the club in our own special way. ;)

Glad you like your guitar! The solid tops almost always sound noticeably better than the laminited ones, and the Ultra Deluxe has some very nice appointments. What color did you get? Is this one made in the US or Korea?

My first Ovation was an Ultra ... and yes, the battery to power the preamp is hidden inside the bowl. If there is a little flathead screw on the side of the bowl, that is what is hold the battery box to the inside of the guitar.

Do tell us about your other O.

The other Ovation is actually a Celebrity, a CC57.

The 1517S is made in Korea and it's natural golden wood grain with an abalone rosette and gold hardware, just like the pictures that "MyOvation1517" posted in the 2006 section, I guess it's spruce, but I don't really know.

I just bought the CC57 on Sunday morning, then I saw the 1517S for the same price so I bought that too. The guys that I bought them from both had the same first name and lived within 6 blocks of each other off of the same street in the same city.

The CC57 doesn't have a screw on the side of the bowl. Maybe it doesn't have a preamp. I noticed a couple of other people here that have CC57s, I guess I should ask them if there's a battery

The 1517S has an external battery compartment like the pictures show. But the thing that holds the battery is missing. That's the part that Ovation is sending me. The only difference that I see between mine and "MyOvation1517" is the EQ/gain thing is different.

I have a CC57. It has volume and tone knobbies.
It does not take a battery. [but neither does my Pseudo-Strat]
I'm guessing that it has no pre-amp.

What that really means? I have no idea!

Doubt that was very helpful, but it is the thought that counts! ;)

Yes, that was helpful, thank you, now I don't have to wonder about that. I'm glad to hear there isn't a battery inside, sounds like a pain to change. It will be interesting to see the difference between having a preamp and not having one.
