It's now available on Balladeer and Standard Elite LX (both 6 and 12 string). Although prices are manufacturer's suggested list (not street price). I find it a good reference to see what Ovation is currently offering, because their web site as a whole isn't always up to date (hint, hint!).

The one thing I had never liked in (at that time) 34 years of playing Ovations was the round back. The contour bowl was my answer. Still made of plastic, but at least it sat on your knee and against your body like a normal guitar. On that day I predicted that the contour bowl would take over the entire line. And I am very glad that it has, and also that the roundbacks are still available for those who might still want them. Good to have both choices. I've had 6-7 contour bowl ovations and admamas since and could not have been happier. Dave

After playing deep roundbacks for 34 years, I find that it doesn't do the typical backward roll and face somewhat up when standing up to play. It feels more like a squareback. I guess I can become accustomed to it.

(or maybe I've just put up with it so long, it's second nature now). I do have one contour in the KOA 06, and I like it too, but I still prefer the looks of the old "bed pan" back.

Speaking of the next one... contour bowl don't know the top yet but it won't be natural or black. The next generation of the VIP (perhaps without the dummy plug thing) And bling... Love bling... Lots-O-Bling. Life is to short for bling-less guitars. Gimme da bling.

So instead of leaving my guitar balanced up on a stool 3 feet off the ground ready to come crashing down as I trip over the chord while going to get another beer, I just put the guitar back on its stand or back in the case. I've become so accustomed to the deep bowl, even if it does slip when sitting (which also happens with box guitars) I've gotten to the point where I correct it without thinking about it, or missing a beat. Sitting, I don't find it that much different other than the top being more vertical (which of course I'm not used to anymore), but playing standing up, I have to shorten my strap so that the guitars contour lines up with my contour.

As a result, more of your forearm rests against the plane of the guitar top. With the contour bowl and typical squareback guitars, my forearm rests squarely on the right angle between the top and the side. After an hour or so, the red mark on my arm is very noticeable. This doesn't happen with a roundback.

Elite, Legend, Balladeer, Folklore, Country Artist, Classic, ... I just picked up a Classic-LX as a temporary adoption for someone. Man would I LOVE to have one of those with a contour bowl.
