Mothership has posted new July 2007 pricelist. VXT is there. Also Deep Contour bowl has finally made it through the entire LX line. It's now available on Balladeer and Standard Elite LX (both 6 and 12 string). Although prices are manufacturer's suggested list (not street price). I find it a good reference to see what Ovation is currently offering, because their web site as a whole isn't always up to date (hint, hint!).

January 2005 at NAMM was the first time I ever saw and played a contour bowl. I was blown away. The one thing I had never liked in (at that time) 34 years of playing Ovations was the round back. The contour bowl was my answer. Still made of plastic, but at least it sat on your knee and against your body like a normal guitar. On that day I predicted that the contour bowl would take over the entire line. And I am very glad that it has, and also that the roundbacks are still available for those who might still want them. Good to have both choices. I've had 6-7 contour bowl ovations and admamas since and could not have been happier.

Al's Koala is the only contour bowl I have. After playing deep roundbacks for 34 years, I find that it doesn't do the typical backward roll and face somewhat up when standing up to play. It feels more like a squareback. I guess I can become accustomed to it.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I've never really had a problem with the deep roundback. (or maybe I've just put up with it so long, it's second nature now). I do have one contour in the KOA 06, and I like it too, but I still prefer the looks of the old "bed pan" back.

I don't own a contour bowl. I've got nothing against them, but I'm happy with deep bowls and the ocassional mid depth bowl.

I'm a deep bowl fan myself.
But with 3 deep bowls currently in the herd, I'd like to just change it up a bit on the next one.

Speaking of the next one...
contour bowl
don't know the top yet but it won't be natural or black.
The next generation of the VIP (perhaps without the dummy plug thing)
And bling... Love bling... Lots-O-Bling. Life is to short for bling-less guitars. Gimme da bling.

An added benefit of the contour bowl is that it's much harder to rest it on top of a stool than a roundback is. So instead of leaving my guitar balanced up on a stool 3 feet off the ground ready to come crashing down as I trip over the chord while going to get another beer, I just put the guitar back on its stand or back in the case.

I haven't made up my mind about the contour bowl yet.
I've become so accustomed to the deep bowl, even if it does slip when sitting (which also happens with box guitars) I've gotten to the point where I correct it without thinking about it, or missing a beat.
Sitting, I don't find it that much different other than the top being more vertical (which of course I'm not used to anymore), but playing standing up, I have to shorten my strap so that the guitars contour lines up with my contour.

FWIW, once I tried a contour bowl, I knew I had to have one. I sold my Adamas and bought a Koala. It is far more comfortable for me to play, particularly standing.

Roundbacks for me! I find woodbox guitars very uncomfortable to play compared to roundbacks... and I still don't get the slippage thing.

With roundbacks tilted slightly face up, the upper bout break angle below the point at which your upper forearm meets the guitar is not only decreased, but so is the distance between the point break angle and your body. As a result, more of your forearm rests against the plane of the guitar top. With the contour bowl and typical squareback guitars, my forearm rests squarely on the right angle between the top and the side. After an hour or so, the red mark on my arm is very noticeable. This doesn't happen with a roundback.

The roundbacks make it easier to tilt the guitar and watch my left hand mess up and miss notes.

WOW, the O-Decoder is going to need quite some update. Basically every model now has a matching Contour model. Adamas CVT, Elite, Std. Elite, Legend, Balladeer, Folklore, Country Artist, Classic, ...

I just picked up a Classic-LX as a temporary adoption for someone. Man would I LOVE to have one of those with a contour bowl.

I love my 1773LX but I gotta think that a 2073 would just be the CATS ASS!

Well at least it would be a minority of 2!

It's possible I had trouble with the deep bowl a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, but I can't remember anymore.

I love my deep bowls!

Hmmm...not sure this was a good idea. The Balladeer LX Deep Contour is model number 2071LX, but 2071 is also the model number for the Korean made / USA assembled Ultra.
