Location: Riverside, CA | I'm applying what I learned from the Ovation set-up video to sprucing up my Taiwanese made Yamaha 400A guitar. The guitar is 20+ years old and has endured some neglect from myself and my step-son. I'm in the process of restringing the guitar and I'm having a hard time getting the bridge pin to stay put in the hole when I tighten the low E string. It's had this problem in the past and I've been able to get it to stay by putting a bit of thick paper in the hole with the pin. It's not working so far this time. I'm using new bridge pins thinking they would solve this problem. Any advice or tricks you can share will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Stu |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Plate Mate won't help. That's for guitars where the bridge plate is worn and will no longer catch the ball end. My understanding of Stu's problem is that the bridge itself is worn such that the pins won't secure in the holes. I have seen a few companies offer "oversized" pins for this purpose. They are just ever so slightly larger diameter (maybe 0.05mm) and should stick better. Just beware not to use them on a guitar with out this problem becasue you'll pre-maturely enlarge the pin holes. 1) Try bending the end of the string so that it will end up in front of the bottom of the pin.
2) Or bevel the end of the pin (towards the slot). |
