I am not really up on the custom shop ovations. Does Qvation agree to let other companies make these guitars? Would they be considered collector guitars? They are pretty.

WOW!!! I've not ever seen either of those before. Ovation has made several custom runs for bigger dealers before (GC, Sam Ash, etc) as well as the limited series like Al's done. I think collectibility is fairly subjective - either one would be a fabulous instrument to own, collecible or not.

The first one was made for Mars Music,
the second one for Gitter Center.

Lam. tops? Not sure.

Chances the burled is a panelmaster. The Koa may be solid.
I love that new Koa one with the oval hole.

You know Beal, the new koa with the cool soundhole is beautiful to look at but the sound doesn't do anything for me. But those who have them love them....

Paul, Have you heard one other than at the hotel lobby? It's all personal preference (and that was a crappy environment), but the more I listen to this guitar the more impressed I am. To my opinion the koa takes off just enough of that typical ovation jangly sound and it has a smoothness that you don't hear in other ovation models. Plus it just looks so friggin cool, how could nayone not love it.

I think the batch of 14 fret ones that Al is building will be equally as stunning, although probably have just a slightly different sound. Lots of good ice cream in this world.

Yes we do!

I can't get over it. Its almost stupid...I've had it for a couple months now and I still find myself daydreaming at the office, thinking about playing it when I get home. Its not like its the only new guitar I've ever bought. And its not like its the only nice guitar I've ever bought. But something about it is working for me big time.

As to the sound, one thing I will say is that it opened up a TON. The way it sounds now compared to the first few days is a complete difference.

Not only is the sound killer, but I've never had a guitar that gets comments like this one. I mainly like posting the photo...sortof like a proud parent forcing pictures of his kids on the co-workers.

I was asked to provide solo accompaniment for a celtic singer at several services this Sunday, including the main service where over 1,000 folks regularly show up. She wants me down in front close to her. I'm considering using the Koala just for the "wow" effect. Perhaps its time to bring this beauty out in public (the past art gallery gig notwithstanding).

I played Fred's a couple of weeks ago when Russ was in town. It's a beautiful guitar, but the sound doesn't do it for me.

Hey, there are people out there who play Taylors, so we know that it takes all kinds......
