Location: kansas | I went to buy a guitar (Ovation) at a local shop and asked to see a particular model that was still in the box. When the box was opened and the styrofoam sheat covering was removed, the sight of loose strings and the rosewood bridge split in two. It appeared to have split where the two screws hold the bridge on. Is rosewood used for the bridge for appearance or tone? Is there a 'better' material for the bridge(stronger maybe)as an upgrade? |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | The only UpGrade that is substantial would be different/better strings,the rest is superficial,bone-nut versus fossile-nut etc, Surely the instrument should be set-up well,buying a Good Guitar right away is what I would do ,not a broken one :)

"The pinless walnut bridge transmits more torque to the soundboard than other designs. Plus each bridge is selected or rejected according to a pre-calibrated density."

Most steel string Lowdens, including the one pictured above, have Rosewood bridges. Rosewood bridges are fine. Thousands of great guitars have Rosewood bridges. My lowden has a rosewood bridge and it sounds incredible.... |

Location: Tennessee | I have Ovations with rosewood, walnut, ebony, and Brazilian rosewood bridges. Never any problems period. I have other acoustics with a range of wood types and never had a problem with those. CWK2 nailed it.
As far as tone, I am sure there are tonal differences between the different woods ... but I'll never hear them. There are way too many other variables in the design, features and materials of the guitars, all of which have a much larger impact on tone. Bridge material just doesn't matter much, if at all. |

For that bridge to split there had to be an issue beyond type of material.
