I've google-searched the model no. after reading about it here, and if no one's gonna buy it, who knows - I might. And that would be BAD. Cause I just recieved my amazingggg THOMPSON T1 DELUXE a month ago, and another semi-hollow handmade I ordered from a luthier here in Israel and my Elferink archtop (elferinkguitars.com) should be ready in two months. Yea I know.. shut up. ;) They sell it for 950$.. Here's a link where you can contact them: http://desmoines.craigslist.org/msg/387009050.html Damn I want this guitar :(

Joined: February 2007 Posts: 10 Location: Israel | Tup, so you say it may even sound like a real guitar? :) The thing is, and I know some may be upset reading it - I don't even really like the ovation sound - When I was a little kid (I still am - 25, by the way) I was hooked for ovations because they were special, I bought an Elite 1868 which I thought is one of the best acoustic guitar in the world. But now I know better. I own a Al DiMeola sig. and even the deep bowl ovations, to my ear, don't sound really good (unplugged, that is). They sound nice and that's it. The moment you compare it to a high-end all wooden guitar, it's really obvious. I see Tup has a martin om-42, so he must know what I'm talking about. Still, I really like the roundback & the looks of the high ends, they are great for soloing and after all pretty good guitars and the sound great when plugging in. And that fd-14 looks really beautiful (remind me of my Thompson T1 Deluxe - an amazing handmade guitar I bought 2 months ago). But.. I bought 4 (!!) guitars this year, and even though I sold 2, I bought really expensive ones, so please someone just buy this one so I'll know it's irrelevant. :)

But don't buy an Ovation and then complain (and I know you're not doing that) that it doesn't sound like a Martin. Ovations have their own voice and some of us like them more than Martins, Gibsons or Taylors. Give me an expensive Martin, Gibson, or Taylor and I'll sell it and buy 2-3 Ovations. The FD14 sounds more like a wood box guitar than most Ovations. It's a fingerpicker's guitar, not a great struming guitar. Someday, pick up an Adamas, maybe an old Adamas I or II, or a 2080. They don't sound like a wood box guitar either, but their particular voice is pretty wonderful. By the way, I've played most of Tup's Martins. Really nice guitars, but none that I have any desire to own.

Mine happens to be the woody acoustic sound, so I think highly of wooden guitars like Martin and Collings, plus a few of the higher end Takamines. I've also played a few Lowdens that were very nice. Tup, so you say it may even sound like a real guitar? The FD14 is Ovations best effort to mimic this sound. Plus you get all the advantages of it being an Ovation. Great neck, stays in tune, etc. Plus I think the electronics in the FD14 are just wonderful. I'm so glad they ditched the on board controls. There is nothing I hate more than my guitar looking like a 747 cockpit. Dave
