Remember, the AFG used to be the Taylor Guitar Forum, so there's a huge amount of loyality for Taylor guitars on that board. I must say, I've played a few Taylor 12's and didn't think badly of them at all. Far more pleased than I've ever been with any of their 6 strings. Adamas 12's are hard to beat, but who knows maybe Taylor is on to something. Or maybe not. I do predict that the first response to Patch's post over their contains the word "plastic". Dave

I know experience is very subjective and when offering 2 cents for an opinion you get your moneys worth and thats about it. That being said, what my experience and 2 cents worth tells me that "we", overall, are not as bias as Dave indicates. We have two members who are very up-front about their outright dis-like for Taylors. I can't think of anyone here who outright hates all Martins. Personally I have been lured to the Doyle Dykes Taylor and I think Brian's D-28 it a great guitar. I'd also guess that more OFC members own and enjoy other brands of acoustic guitars than visa/versa. Are "we" Ovation-centric? Damn right we are. That's why we're here and not there. At the same time I would say that overall "we" have a deeper knowledge of other guitar makes and models than members on the other boards. Yeah, we may be a group of Ovation geeks / nerds / fan-boys, but I think we can appreciate a well made instrument no matter who makes it. I think that any mis-understanding between the various tribes come from the lack of product knowledge. We know about the textured top Adamas. We know about the different bracing found in the Balladeers and Legends and which ones work and which ones don't. The other guys don't have the time or inclination to dig a little deeper into the product line. They'll play a poorly set-up, shallow bowl Celebrity in Guitar Center and base all their opinions on that. Heck.. truth be told, even us fan-boys have a hard time mustering up any pride in one of those. Lastly, in accordence with OFC Fairness in Posting Doctrine, Article 12, subsection G-6 I must make the following statement. This post about open-mindedness has been brought to you by someone who, for all intended purposes, has never owned another make of guitar than Ovation. Oh.. one more question for debate. I have yet to see, on any other guitar site, the friendships and espre-de-corps found here. Why is that???

I think Ovation is kind of an "underdog" in the market and as ovation owners many of us have developed that underdog mentality. Result is that "we" are probably more brand-loyal than "they" are. But brand-loyality taken to extreme leads to closed mindedness. Dave

My daughter's 247 with the quilted nutmeg top has beautiful workmanship, although the sound is a bit dead. They were great deals for what they are. My Balladeer 12 is everything I need in a 12, which is not much. Picked it up last night for the first time in months and it was still in tune. That is really important to me in a 12 string. I don't own any non Ovations, although I admit to lusting after a few Hamers and talking a friend into buying an Ibanez for his wife.

I played nothing but Ovations for about 35 years out of blind brand loyalty, thanks in no small part to Glen Campbell's consistant use of them. It was he that brought me to the Ovation table way back when, and as a result I wouldn't even consider any other brand of acoustic or a/e guitar. My credo was, "If they're good enough for Glen Campbell, they're certainly good enough for me"... Then I got a Martin and my whole outlook changed. But brand-loyality taken to extreme leads to closed mindedness. Today, I own a Martin, a Gibson, an Ovation and even an Epiphone (the reissue Paul McCartney Texan), and I don't think I could ever go back to playing just one brand again. For me now, when it comes to guitars, variety really is the spice of life!
