He and his wife came to visit us from San Marcos, CA and he sounded so good on it that I gave it to him. I am now reduced to 3 mandolins, a '66 Fender Mustang, and my 70's Yamaki copy of a Martin D-42 that developed a soundboard crack last week. Not a bad one, but I think the sound even improved a little as if the crack relieved some 30 year old tension on the guitar. Now I will cause some great instrument repair and maintenance people to become aghast, and reach for a lynching rope. I PUT SOME HEAVY TRANSPARENT SHIPPING TAPE ON THE CRACK TO STOP IT'S MOVEMENT. It still shows the grain and finish, and is no worse than the pick gaurd, even though all collectors will immediately consider the guitar a piece of s--- like they did when I screwed a strap button on the heel of the neck. Feel free to comment, and remember I don't have any more Ovations, but they are my favorite example of science and art combining with a great result. Yesterday, August 10, 2007, was Shirley and mine Golden wedding anniversary, those 50 years flew by like a steam streamliner from the 40's. Bailey

I wish you fifty more years of health and happiness together. Ovations or not, I truly wish you would drop around a little more often. I sorely miss waking up in the morning to read your erudite take on life; always penned in the wee hours. I've learned a lot about life from you ... squeezed in amongst tales of nuclear science, old Fords, car accidents, desert rats, and the heydays of San Diego. Stay close, my friend. Bobbo

I'll try to come on sometimes, it's so hard not being a REAL musician with an audience after so many years with somewhere to play other than my living room. Bailey

FIFTY GOLDEN YEARS It rattled accross the trestle high With creek and harbor seen far below On unseen rails it crossed the sky So how was a little girl to know That her Daddy's train couldn't fly And land on earth at the railroad depot Her Daddy who ran that train in overalls Gave her to me at our wedding celebration We drove our '57 Ford to Niagara Falls And began a trip that would span the nation Setting in Las Cruces New Mexico On a hot August desert night An Ohio steam streamliner train Came roaring through the night It was a reminder that 50 years ago We said those wedding vows Those 50 years were on that train Whistle screaming history the drivers eating miles We left our home and never looking back We were riding cross the nation on that track We had a house above a long steep cliff Above Conneaut Creek no backyard but an if What if the house went down the cliff The firstborn baby's room was on that cliff We had more kids and moved around Lived across from Lake Erie's soothing sound We drank and danced at the Billow Beach To jazzy piano songs and 40's music still around The boys and dog went lost in the woods And I found them by the railroad tracks That same streamliner went roaring by We left for California after that With three kids sleeping in the back We even drove through the night From Arizona with a rented trailer We made San Diego by the morning light Beaches mountains desert sun Endless days of carefree fun 60's California was our number one And with number four the family's done Too many people joined the fun It no longer seemed like number one We packed up, got on the train And headed out there once again New Mexico became our home We lived there longest didn't roam On a hot August desert night An Ohio steam streamliner train Came roaring through the night It was a reminder that 50 years ago We said those wedding vows Those 50 years were on that train Whistle screaming history the drivers eating miles We left our home and never looking back And we still are riding on that track

And whether you have an Ovation in the stable right now or not, once you've had one and loved one, you're always one of us. Congrats on the Golden. One of my great regrets is that moody.rn and I didn't get meet and get married until later and we might not make 50 together. It's something to dream of. My folks are about to hit 59 in November. Please keep posting. Like Bobbo and others, I miss getting up in the morning to your observations.

Joined: May 2002 Posts: 3005 Location: Las Cruces, NM | Al Of Course I use the strap, it is one of my most valuable possesions. Giving away the Viper made sense as my son will play it as it should be played. I can get by with my acoustic and my Mustang and my three mandolins here in my living room. I even have an eight track digital recording apparatus that if I could figure it out would allow me to make recordings. Who knows, I might do that someday. Bailey
