I'm considering one of these to convert some old/rare vinyl to disc.

The Ion- gets decent reviews, though it sounds like the software (Audacity) is a bit flaky- but, if you down load the latest greatest, the results are pretty good.

Open to comments from those who have done a little vinyl to disc conversion, using a USB turntable?

Not yet but I am looking forward to what you find out. I also have a batch of vinyl I have been thinking about converting.

I've spent some time turning vinyl into CDs. I just use the line-out from my stereo to the line-in on my sound card which is a Creative Sound Blaster. The software that came with the sound card works great. Creative Sound Mixer for determining which input to record and Creative Wave Studio for the actual recording and editing.

It might be a little tedious but you can actually edit out the pops and clicks from old vinyl pretty easily. It saves everything to a .wav format which is CD quality and then its just a matter of burning the disk.

It's great for the old obscure albums you can't already find on CD.

Would it be cheaper for me to ship you 3cwt of vinyl or do I needf to buy one myself? You could keep the vinyl - original 1960s Love, Dead, Allmans, etc., etc.,

You could make a fortune and I wouldn't havre to deal with post steam-age technology.

Hey, I would LOVE to have your old vinyl, but part of the reason I don't visit around here as much as I used to is because of time constraints. Yeah, I've actually gotten enough enthusiasm from reading this board to go out and find a great bunch of people locally to form a band. Not enough lonely nights at home anymore! :D

I had the ION table and used it to do about 50 records with the Audacity software. It does take time because you have to record the whole side and then look at the graph to split up the songs, or else you get the whole side as one song on the CD. OT, if anyone is interested, I still have about 200 + records 70's 80's etc..., I want to get rid of in road cases (3 or 4). I would sell them for the price I paid (discounted) on the cases (about 30.00 each) The shipping would be a killer, but if anyone is interested, pm me for a list.

If you need to get rid of noise and/or clicks/pops this software works well.

I use Dart Pro 32 software to record and clean up the noise. It also looks for the silence and splits the songs apart automatically.

I've got an Audio technica usb turntable that came with Cakewalk software that has worked well for me so far. I don't know how to provide links, but if you go to Amazon and search usb turntables, it'll come up.
