Here I am last Thursday with my beloved Legend, playing at a place in Goodrich, Michigan called Cranberries. A nice place with good food, good people, and a real pleasure to play!

Notice how the painting behind me makes it look like I'm getting a bottled emptied over my head!

This was the night that my soundhole pickup quit working, and it was just me and the microphone. Hard to play that way, but it sure sound good!

I played with no backing at all. Just by myself. I told the owner that I specialize in traditional Blues, but could also play lots of requests for oldies, classic rock and country, pretty much anything except hip hop and death metal. I was told to just feel the crowd out.

I started out doing old time Blues stuff, and everybody seemed to love it, so I stayed with that all night long. The place packed out toward the middle of the evening, and there were actually several couples dancing away! It was mostly a 40+ crowd. I played all Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Elmore James, etc. etc.

This was my favorite gig that I've played in a long long time! I can't wait to return!

The great thing about playing blues stuff, is that its never too old, and you're never too old to perform blues songs. I say this, because awhile back when enlisting other musicians for gigs, many thought my songs were dated or they never heard some of them. The Blues lives for ever.

Well said.

We were discussing this just the other day. I just turned 44...an age where you have to start considering that the audience going to have trouble accepting you singing (for example) the White Stripes.

So, we threw some stuff out of our sets, just because we are too old for it. But there's a bottomless well of great material that is ageless. And once you get to a certain age, some stuff works so much better. Its pretty lame when a 22 year old sings the blues. Sorry, buddy, you are too young to have had the blues!

Here's another shot from the same gig...

Notice how the stream of wine lines up perfectly with my mic stand? Like it's one long steady stream...

This Legend is the 1980 model with A bracing and HUGE tone. Bass gushes out of that thing! I call it a Martin killer! A friend recently dropped a bunch of bucks on a Larrivee, and when we compared the two side by side he was greatly disappointed in his purchase. I felt bad for him, having paid only $300 for mine.
