Been lurking for awhile, but I wanted to get some input on a potential new acquisition. Found a 1617 on craigslist about 2 hr drive away and I'm going today to take a look (and possibly buy). I couldn't believe SWMBO actually encouraged me to go (although the one-in-one-out rule applies)! Anyway, the seller is the original owner, says the only issues are a small ding on the lower treble bout and a small chip on the headstock (he sent photos of those), and the tone knob is cracked. Opinions? Thanks in advance.

I used to hae one just like it...same crack in the knob as well...replacements can be gotten from the mothership..I personally wouldn't worry about the ding and chip...it happens...$400 is probably the top end of what these are going for but if you like it then go for it!

My opinion. Aside from the guitar, SWMBO is a keeper.

Thanks guys. Will report on it (with pics) tomorrow if I decide to bring it home. And Captain, she's DEFINITELY a keeper, and not just because she puts up with my GAS.

Looks like a sweet deal, especially if the one that goes out is the Montana. I actually bought one of those Montanas, labelled a Monterrey, for a friend and it wasn't bad.

I`ve got a 1617 sunburst, has a "chimey" sound with gauge 12-52,more "attack" with gauge 13-56,yet retains the "chimey" properties, very much a "singing" guitar I would say, sweet kind a tone,I hope it`s in Good condition and that you`ll get it.. :)

Vic

...Good Luck..!!

If I do wind up getting it I'll bring it along to the Florida Jam - still up in the air on attending but it looks more and more like I'll be able to go.

I actually bought the Montana for SWMBO when she said she wanted to try to learn to play. She hasn't had much time with the kid and her evening teaching duties at the local comm college lately, so that's definitely the "one-out". I agree it's a nice guitar for the money (but it's no O).
