High tension strings will not damage the guitar. Here's a chart showing tensions for D'Addario ProArte strings. FWIW, EJ45 are normal tension and EJ44 are Extra Hard tension. The difference is 85 lbs. vs. 91 lbs., or 6 lbs. For a deep bowl classical, like the 1613, I personally prefer using normal tension on the bass strings and hard tension on the treble. The reason is that the deep bowl emphasizes the bass response, which, IMO, causes the bass strings to overpower the treble. The bottom line is put on the strings that make the guitar sound like you want. |
