| Hi out there...
I recently bought a used CC157. Got no data, manual or what so ever...
So I'm trying to find out a bit about that beautiful axe...
On the sticker inside it say it's a CC157 with serial# 359295. According to Ovation tribute "date your Ovation" the number tells its build 1987. But according to the marvelous "Ovation Decoder" the CC157 model is build between 1991 and 1996.
So what's right? Is it a 1987 or a early 90's one? It has a sunburst top and features a simple preamp like the K-Graphic Ultra series, but only TRE, BAS and GAIN sliders.
Hopefully anyone can help on dating it and maybe what kind of preamp it got?
Thanks in advance

Location: SoCal | Asian built Ovations do not conform to the serial numbers in records. Those serial numbers only apply to USA built Ovations. The only thing you can do is look at old catalogs and see where your guitar fits in. Got to http://ovationtribute.com/Catalogs%20&%20Brochures.html and start looking for your model. Spend a rainy Sat and go thru the whole site. You'll learn a lot and have a lot of fun looking at Ovation's history. I recommend maragritas and nachos while doing the research......

Looking at http://ovationtribute.com/Pr%E9-amplis/Ovation%20Preamps.html my guess would be a DJ-3 preamp as it seems related to the DJ-4. I don't know these DJ-3/4 preamps.
According to http://ovationtribute.com/O_Decoder/O-Decoder%20rev8.htm the CC157 is early 1990's and - as they wrote in a brochure "Built by Ovation’s Pacific-based subsidiary" - from when it was a shameful No-no to say "Made in Korea". Nonetheless, if it plays well and you are happy it's a good guitar. If it has a a good string height and neck is straight after these years it will probably last forever.
Welcome to the forum and congratulations with the new guitar.

Except from the preamp, which differs, the basic principles are covered. Even if the manual is "10 years after" your guitar.

| Wow wow wow... Thank you all for the infos... OK as I'm not in margaritas, I'll fetch me a crate of beer and start digging...
And yes all is straight and an absolute fun to play. Might think about new frets someday but for now it's close to perfect...
Thanks again.. Greets from Germany |
