 Help me identify my Dad's guitar - with video

Hi all; my dad passed away a couple weeks ago and I'm trying to identify his Adamas II. I THINK it's a 1685-7, anniversary brown, but the serial is throwing me off. Everything is so faded; it could be serial #1871 but that's back in 1981 before the 1685s were made, so perhaps it's 4871? But that's 1989 and I think the double knobs on the electronics were down to one and a panel by then, (at least by 1991 they were). Could the model be different? More photos in the comments. Please help; any insights would be wonderful! But I am calling it "1911" (or 1811 or 1711) Anyway, that would put the date at 1980 or 1981 or so.... You all are amazing! Thank you!  That all definitely lines up better than trying to force it into the later 1980s. Going with 1685-9, serial 1879, somewhere in 1981-1982, as my head cannon. He said it would go to me when he passed, but it's in Alaska at the family property with a few of my siblings nearby that are learning while I'm out of state. So, for now, we've decided to let it live in its historic place on the wall so everyone visiting can enjoy playing it. That means I'm on the hunt to have one with me in the meantime. So if you see any 1685s out there please let me know. It doesn't need to match color/year/etc. Or any good older 1688s those would likely also work as, per lessons in this forum (thank you all!), the differences are minor and I just want a good Adamas 12 deep-bowl in my life. The first Adamas II I ever saw was played by Glen Campbell on his Music Show in the fall of 1982 (he played that 12 string until he stopped playing 12's -- 20 years at least). The first Adamas literature was from 1982. I don't think you'll get closer than that. I heard/read that Glen got a pair of red Adamas guitars from Ovation in 1982 one 6 string and one 12 string do you recall if the guitar he was playing was the 2-red and do you have footage or know where I might see the video,I'm a big Glen Campbell and Adamas 12 string fan  | ||

They were both blue. One was a steel string and the other a nylon string in a country artist configuration. He did not play the steel string very long, getting his 1537 prototype and playing it and another 1537 proto for the next 6 years. The Adamas Country Artist was played by Glen for 3-4 years. Last I heard, the steel string was in Nova Scotia and they nylon string here in SoCal (not with me). Glen's rythym guitar player, Craig Fell, played red Adamii on Glen's music show. That might be what you're thinking of...... | |||

He has a lot of oldies-but-goodies while he made several tribute and motivational videos during COVID via the Yentna Station page, I’ve also been recording him for years to help learn (I can now play about 1/200th as well as he...but at least have a good time at it) and plan on putting up a YouTube channel at some point. Glad to see it resonated. | |||
