Location: Rochester, New York USA | I received my new 2020 Adamas I 2087GT-8 Custom Reverse Blue Burst, Thursday, November 5th, three days after it appeared in the Guitar Gallery. The Adamas, with an October 27, 2020 serial number, arrived in flawless condition and is a credit to the five or so Ovation Custom Shop craftsman in New Hartford, Connecticut. With its Deep Contoured Bowl, the guitar is comfortable and stays put just about as well as a conventional wooden guitar. The Adamas features a balanced tone with a crystalline-like shimmer that would amplify and record with minimal EQ. Acoustically, if a Martin HD-28 and an Adamas 2080 NWT are sledgehammers, think of the Adamas as a jeweler's hammer that IMHO would be a joy as an acoustic guitar for jazz-/rock-/and pop-artists to play. Amplified, with its Ovation OCP-1 Pickup/Op Pro Studio Preamp system, the Adamas I 2087GT-8 can be just about anything a player needs or may want it to be in many live-performance situations.

I didn't know sweetwater carried the Adamas line I'll have to look at their site more often.

Location: When?? | Lucky, lucky you!! I like to look at new things like your guitar and wonder where they will be 50, 75, 100 years down the road. There is no reason why a instrument of this solid quality shouldn't make it through a very long history in grand style and shape. But as for the here and now.. congratulations! |

Suffering a bit from NGD envy, but nothing a little "O time" won't cure. Your 2087 is a beauty, and it's great to see a new USA O getting the respect they deserve! |

Location: Rochester, New York USA | I just noticed the Adamas models being offered by Sweetwater about six weeks ago and had been watching since for when mine came in. Currently, Sweetwater has another Adamas 2087GT-8 on order and they're awaiting an Adamas MD80 NWT Cutaway Mid-depth Contour which should arrive any day now.
Please note that Sweetwater's specs list the 2087GT-8 as having Adamas X-bracing but it actually has, as the Ovation site lists it, Adamas Fan-bracing. The Adamas MD80 NWT does have the Adamas X-bracing as listed by both Sweetwater and Ovation.

Location: Rochester, New York USA | Having had this Adamas I 2087GT-8 for a bit over two weeks, I find that it's either me or the guitar or a combination of the two but it's getting louder and fuller in tone the more I play it. It would seem counter-intuitive given the materials the guitar is crafted from but it does have a walnut neck and fingerboard and an inner layer of birch wood within the carbon-fiber inner and outer layers of the soundboard. Anyway, the more I play this guitar, the more I like it! Has anyone else had similar experiences with their Adamas guitars? Thanks. |

Location: Muenster/Germany | IMHO it´s simply because you got accustomed to that guitar. Adamas tops react different to spruce tops, it´s these milliseconds we all need to create a good tone when we play. Nice guitar, though. I miss the contour body on my old Adamas guitars, it´s one of the best inventions ever. |

Location: Rochester, New York USA | I like the plugged-in tone of my new Adamas I 2087GT-8 with its onboard Op Pro Studio Preamp/OCP1-K pickup system! With all guitar and PA EQ controls set flat, I get an even, full tone complete with top and body percussion should I want it (think Kaki King). I also get very little of the "quack" associated with most UST pickups or the "hollowness" that often has to be EQ'ed out of SBT pickups. The onboard Op Pro Studio preamp has 3-band EQ and a harmonic enhancer effect (think Aphex Aural Enhancer-type effect) along with a variable compressor effect. This afternoon I'm playing my Adamas with the Carvin WG5 wireless system into my LR Baggs Synapse PA and getting a clear and full amplified tone without the fuss or muss of endless dial twisting. In summary, although there is little interest anymore in Ovation products, I think their American-made guitars with the Op Pro Studio Preamp/OCP1-K pickup are wonderful-sounding with this preamp/pickup being as state of the art as any pickup/preamp system out there. Location: Colorado | For the fortunate few of us who have 40+ year old Adamas Guitars, many will attest they open up with playing and time - much like all wood guitars. Mine is as early as they come, and it got played a few hours a day for the 1st 15 years of its life.....it definitely has sustain and vibrations beyond the younger guitars. This is evident in the measurements of the ears of folks on this board, and on the vibrometer back at the mother ship....My guess is nothing is audible in a couple weeks...my guess is not your just getting used to it, but you are more comfortable pushing its limits now with your playing....They are very very durable - play the snot out of it. |

Location: Indiana | I agree. Mine is 38 and, while I can't prove it, I'd swear it opened up considerably through the years. It wasn't by any means a hangar queen. It was used extensively... daily for the first 25 years. Often road hard and put up wet.
Some lucky OFCer will have a chance at her when they pour my ashes in the Folgers can.

Thanks for the review SpruceTop. That's some high praise in light of your guitar collection - in complete agreement with your assessment. 15 year old technology, that's still providing performance at the highest level! Can't wait to try the VIP pre-amp on my 1680 waiting for me in California! |

Location: Rochester, New York USA | The VIP-5 Preamp in my long-gone Adamas 2080 NWT is what I'd prefer Ovation was still using or offering as an option in their newest Adamas guitars. The Op Pro Studio now used as standard is very good but the VIP-5 just made the amplified tone more natural and better IMHO. I should have bought the VIP-5 Alpep recently had for sale at a good price. Maybe another VIP-5 will come along for sale? |
