Location: Colorado | I have been wondering about the history of the selection of the name "Ovation." I obviously get the meaning - and I like it. Many name guitar companies use the name of the founders (Most actually). Does anyone know what discussions were held regarding naming? Were there other names considered? Was a Kaman Guitar ever a naming possibility? I know things progressed into KMC, and perhaps separation from the aviation division was felt to be necessary. Perhaps Mauvais Beal remembers some of it - or Al? I will put this out on social media too.... |

Location: SoCal | The story I heard was that somebody who heard the guitar (obviously early on), commented that Charlie and the company deserved an ovation for what they had done, and it stuck.....

Seems to me I read something of the kind in "the book". |

Location: 6 String Ranch | It was when Glen’s mother worked there. She dropped her red pen one day and shouted Oh Shit. Glen said pick it up Ma and she said No Way Son. Well with all the noise in the factory is sounded like O va shun. Glen said that’s a great name for these guitars Mama. And so it stuck and they didn’t go with Newport because that was a cigarette and Charlie didn’t smoke. |

Good thing they didn't make a third tier. First tier was Ovation, second tier was Applause. The next tier would have been Clap. Followed by nods of appreciation and further on a comforting pad on the shoulder. |

Going from memory & based off some information I've previously read, "Sound Instruments Co." was once considered too..
