I'm still getting used to it but I really love the guitar so far. http://www.stevezeik.com/media/AD1769Sample.mp3 Not the greatest quality but my recording stuff is pretty primative and inexpensive. The guitar does record nicely though! I put extra lights on it and the strings may be a bit too light. The high e is a .10 now. The strings it came with felt like standard light gauge strings. I think I need to be somewhere in middle of the strings I have on it now and the set it came strung with. So maybe a .11 for the high E would feel right. Would appreciate any suggestions for strings for this guitar. Thanks, Steve

Joined: October 2006 Posts: 15 Location: New Jersey | Thanks! I went direct for the AD 1769. I used a microphone for the distorted electric guitar which started to feedback a bit but I was too lazy to correct that. I love the sound of a live mic, but I don't have the patience to dial in a good sound and deal with background noise like phone ringing, etc... Steve

They're a bit hard to find at retail stores, but are readily available on eBay or from any on-line source. I like the original regular bronze, but they come in phosphur bronze also. The PB's are brighter in sound, a bit too bright IMO.

And that if your guitar is a non-cutaway you prefer something else? You need to call Paul Moody, ASAP. My favorite strings for a cutaway Ovation are Elixir Nanoweb Custom Light gauge Dave

On a related note - is my name familiar to you?? Yours is VERY much so to me. I'm in Franklin Lakes. Where are you in NNJ? Maybe I'll write you privately. We may have worked at the same company in a past life or something. My last name is Placer...

On non-cutaway models, I use light gauge (.012-.053). Not a big difference, but the 3 top strings are lighter and easier to bend and play on the higher frets.Originally posted by Mitchrx: OK Mitch, I gotta ask.
