Saw this on ebay and it really caught my interest. Old style balladeer, probably 1970 with K- serial number and original Klusons, etc. Something just tells me that this one sounds sweet, sweet, sweet. You know that feeling? This one just seems RIGHT.

I'm too bloated right now to jump on it, but for someone looking for an acoustic only guitar that probably sounds better than anything Ovation made in the 35 years since, this would be the one. I don't make a habit of pimping ebay auctions, but this one is TOO good to let go un-noticed.

I love how the early Balladeers had 5-piece necks. Brings back memories...Even with the chip off the headstock this guitar looks to be in excellent condition.

On a guitar like this, I could care less about the cosmetics. I just KNOW that this thing sounds great. It was a wonderful era for Ovation. It'll be hard not to throw a bid on it.

Q Dave " What made you think THAT? "

---------------------------------------------

C W Kaman`s biography, in where he states, that being a helicopter engineer he strived to take vibrations out, but with the guitar, he had to put vibrations in..

Vic

..plus a busker I met in `78 who had a balladeer, no sound coming out of it..he used 10`s though..

It looks just like my Gertrude; same model number. You can ask Tuppy and Brad what she's like to play. She has a wonderful rich, warm sound--I'm not in the market for a deep-bowled one anymore, but if I needed one to think of as a beater guitar, here's where I'd start.

Reasonable is what you would enter as a maximum bid.
UN-reasonable would be any bid that beats yours.
An OUTRIGHT STEAL would be the one you forgot to bid on.

I would ballpark it anywhere from $250 to $650 but who knows?

Predicting value on these kinds of guitars is tough. It's just an old ovation with a busted headstock tip, crack in the finish, no electronics, and shitty old gig bag. What the hell could THAT be worth?

Best use of this guitar would be for someone to buy it and send it to Ovation with a note - "Dear sirs, please make all your modern guitars sound as good as this one."

Dave,
So...how about the 1973 NOS Custom Balladeer mentioned on our Sell/Trade board...How many of these are still in existence? This has got to be worth something to the old-school Ovation crowd..

As long as it's X braced it would be OK. I know the CB was originally X and I assume it still was in 1973. You just can't beat these old dogs.
