That is what my stereo output sounds like. What's up with that?

I have an O with both a stereo and a mono output jack, both only sound every other string when plugged in. Has anybody had this problem and how is it fixed?

Thanks.

My guess is one of the channels from the pickup is not working, hence you're missing every other string. Either the pickup or the wire/jack into the preamp would be my suspect. Dave

Each jack only plays every other string? Isn't that how its supposed to work? 1 cable for mono, a Y cable for stereo (2 mono 1/4" plugs to 1 stereo plug, or 2 mono plugs to 2 amps)? so that every other string goes to different amps?

As the battery runs out of juice, the strings on one of the channels will go dead. Replace the battery and see if that resolves the problem.

Brainslag, the mono jack is supposed to pick up all 6 strings. I've panicked twice on this issue when I plugged a turner into the stereo jack of the 1537, then the OFC and couldn't get the tuner to pick up 3 strings. My eyes don't see the little print next to the jacks and my brain doesn't remember.

I've got this problem with one of my stereo O's and my tech thinks it may be the jack, that it's not making all the contact that it's supposed to. I've got to get the guitar over to him and I'll let you know what he says.

Mono is always the inboard plug...

Like I'm going to remember that! I'll just need to find my reading glasses.

I had an issue with my Adamas one time like that. On the jack(s) there are contacts that make other connection paths when the plug is inserted. They are little contact points on the jack assembly itself. You may need to clean them to make correct contact. I would check the battery first though.

Battery first, jack second.

Mark, Paul Simon played a Custom Legend in the 70's. When he divorced Carrie Fisher, she ended up with it. She sold it on ebay. He had plastered black tape over the stereo jack so a roadie wouldn't make a mistake....

I just realized that it's not my bad eyesight. My OFC guitar has both jacks labelled "stereo". Anyone have two that are labelled "Mono"?

I know that. But he says hes having a problem with his stereo output, not the mono.. and just that it sounds like "this" - the post title, which I don't know what it means, but looks like each set of alternating strings... on the stereo set up, it looks correct. The mono output only picks up all 6 strings until the other plug is connected.

Cool. You've got that new dual-stereo quad set-up that is all the rage over on the quad quitar forum, although it was my understanding that it was created primarily for 8-string basses and mandolins, and 12-string models with 3 strings dedicated to each channel.

It's the mono output, as well as the stereo output (using a mono cable) that is only picking up every other string. I'm going to pick up fresh batteries tonight and see if that works.

Thanks for all the input!

I'm afraid I won't have a special OFC guitar for long. Al and John are sending me a "mono" washer. Maybe I'll take some pictures and save the old one to use when I advertise it as an extremely rare guitar on Ebay. Just in case 11 of 12 isn't good enough.

Since I can't read that little print anyway, it doesn't matter. I have to pretend to read the fine print on contracts and when a client asks me what it means, I make something up.

The professor was correct -- it was the battery. Now who wants to buy this fine rare beauty :)
