There have been some grumblings about their name and suggestions that they change it, but I hope they don't. |

I suppose if they give in to politcal correctness they could be
Advance Placement Ed and the busettes. The busettes may think this is too girly. I say stick with it. |

"Special Ed" is (or maybe, used to be--I've been out of school a long time now and it's probably been re-named) short for "special education," the program our schools offer for mentally- and physically-handicapped children. The "short bus" is a shorter version of the long, yellow school bus most American kids schlepp off to school in, and that's the bus that's usually equipped for wheel-chair access. Hence the discontentment over the band's name...
(I got a good chuckle out of it, though, so I rather hope they don't change it; but maybe I'd feel differently if someone in my family had actually needed to ride in one...)

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | "Special Ed" is also a puppet in the show Crank Yankers also. Just another play on the meaning but it is a great name for his charicter. I actually have a clip on my cell phone for when I get a voice mail. It says (in his "special ed" voice.. "I got mail... YEAH! I GOT MAIL!!!
(It's funnier to hear than to read...) |
